Song Analysis Rakan Zaid M XI-H

The song "Dear April" by Frank Ocean is about moving on from a broken relationship. It evokes emotions of sadness and sincerity. The song conveys that relationships serve purposes for both people but must end when that purpose is fulfilled, and trying to prolong a relationship past its expiration can lead to harm. The lyrics and instrumentation reflect how relationships can change people but are transient. The message of letting go and moving on from things that are over remains relevant for dealing with life's challenges.

SONG ANALYSIS
Analyzing a song titled Dear April by Frank Ocean.

1. What do you think the song is about?

I think the song is about moving on from a broken relationship, while also
reflecting on how relationship can change people, helping them heal and
finding new things about themselves and each other.

2. What emotional response does the song evoke?

It evokes the emotion of sincere and sadness.

3. Write a paragraph or a few sentences that describe the message, viewpoint or

lesson the songwriter was trying to convey. Share examples from the song in
your explanation.
This song sees relationships as connections that come and go, serving a
purpose for both people involded, and after that purpose has been fulfilled,
both parties usually move on.
2 broken people can't support each other, in fact, things can get ugly easily
when people try to make their connection last beyond its expiration date.
"We were save for a while, we were save as the years flew by."
After describing a period of love and growth, the story progresses into a
bittersweet ending.
"What we had won't be the same now, but you will make something new,
and it'll take you through this.”
And frank addresses that with time, they will eventually move on from the
pain of breaking up, and while things won't be the same, both of them will
form a new bond, and feel alive once more.

4. Conduct research to learn the actual message of the song. There are several
online sites you could use such as www.wikipedia.org, www.songfacts.com, and
www.lyricinterpretations.com. Summarize what you learn below.
Dear April convey its meaning not only with its lyrics, instead, the whole
song is built following the idea that it believes.
The instrument of the song builds on top of itself as the song draws on,
rather than progressing horizontally.
Because of that, the lyrics are pretty free flowing as well, they aren't
separated into verse, chorus, or bridge, in fact frank built the song around
three spesific lines, repeating and altering them throughout the track.
The lyrics and the message go perfectly well with the song's instumental, in
the way frank uses repetition, only slightly changing the wording each time
to take on new meaning. this might be reading too deep into it, but the static
nature of Dear April resonates nicely with the lyrics.
The instrument and the lyrics structure are a reflection on how relationship
can change people and help them grow, but it's also a thing that comes and
goes, just like how the song sees relationship.

5. Do you believe the message of the song is relevant today? If so, is it relevant in
your school, your community, the nation, the world, or all of them? If not, why
not?
I personally believe that the message is relevant today, it's not really that
deep, but the idea about moving on and letting go can be helpful for
everyone, and it's not only for relationships, it can also be useful for other
things in life, like a job that you don't enjoy or material things that distract
you.
Human tends to keep everything, even things they don't need and things that
are hurting them, cluttering their mind and making them unhappy, by letting
go and moving on, we can focus our attention to the things that really bring
value to our life.

6. What words, lines or phrases in the song do you personally relate to?
I don't relate to the song that much, but out of context, the line "I believe no
matter what, take us through it" relates a lot to me.

7. What might be an alternate title for the song?

The alternate title might be "april", but "dear april" is the perfect title for the
song.
