20 Solved Problems (Written Work)

CONVERSION OF UNITS (5 items)

Convert the following into the desired units.

1.) 10,000 centimeters to miles.

2.) 5,000 pounds to kilograms.
3.) 365 days to seconds.
4.) 50 inches to centimeters.
5.) 35 meters to feet.

SCALARS AND VECTORS (5 items)

Determine which of the following are SCALARS or VECTORS.

1.) -9.8 m/s2

2.) 20o Celsius

Solve the resultant of the

3.) Use the component method of vector addition to find the components of the resultant of the four
displacements shown in the figure. The magnitudes of the displacements are: A = 2.25 cm, B = 6.35 cm, C
= 5.47 cm, and D = 4.19 cm.

4.) A delivery truck leaves a warehouse and travels 2.60 km north. The truck makes a left turn and travels
1.25 km west before making another right turn to travel 1.40 km north to arrive at its destination. What is
the magnitude and direction of the truck's displacement from the warehouse?
5.) Town A is found 20 km north of town B. Town C is found 13 km west of town A. A small plane flies
directly from town B to town C. What is the displacement of the plane?

Kinematics in One Dimension (5 items)

1.) A plane lands at a speed of 68 m/s and slows down at a rate of 4m/s 2. How much runway is
needed to stop the plane?
2.) A ball is thrown up from the top of a building with an initial velocity of 30 m/s.
a.) What is the max height of the ball?
b.) How long till it reaches max height?
c.) What is the height of the building if the velocity before impact is 90 m/s?

Projectile Motion (5 items)

1.) Let us say we observe a soccer game at a 120m-long soccer field, near the
end of the game, the team who has the ball tries its best to make the last
second winning shot, but they are at the other side of the soccer field. Will
the ball reach the goal if the soccer player gives the ball an initial velocity of
25 m/ s at an angle 55 °?

2.) Suppose your friend Marcus wants to participate in Guinnes world record of
highest motorcycle jump and hoping to beat the current record of 76 m. If his
motorcycle can only reach a velocity of 30 m/s and the ramp he is going to
jump at has an angle of 60 ° . Will Marcus beat the current world record?

3.) A ball was thrown at an angle of 30 ° with an initial velocity of 40 m/ s. How

many seconds will it take for the ball to reach its range?

4.) A soccer player finds himself still 70 m away from the goal but the time is
almost up. At what initial velocity does the player need to give the ball in
order to reach the goal if he kicks it at 45 ° with respect to ground?

5.) Batman created a long-range weapon to capture Joker. However, he has a

very poor skill in solving physics problems. Fortunately, you are his friend. He
asks your help to pinpoint Joker by solving how much initial velocity his
weapon requires to seize Joker. All you know is that his Batman’s weapon is
only limited to 30 ° tilt, and Joker’s position is 20 km away from Batman’s
weapon position.
