specified in drawing as per clause no. 8.9.1 sub clause3) of about 3 to 4 Mt. Approx.
length from the Ground level / As per mentioned in Approved Drawings / As per Site
conditionshall be driven to protect loose soil from failing in the bore hole at location
where the spill is in loose state and there is a tendency of collapse of bore hole. The
temporary casing shall be driven by help of hydraulic rig. After Driving the casing its
verticality shall be checked by Plumb bob.
The temporary casing / Liner shall be removed after concreting
II. Permanent liner for the piles shall be provided wherever required depending upon the
site condition and Approved Drawings. MS liner from MS sheet to suit diameter of the
pile shall be fabricated as per approved GFC drawings. The Required length of the liner
shall be made up by welding each unit at site. The thickness of MS liner shall not be
less than 6mm as per clause no. 8.9.1 sob clause 5 of Volume 3 A. / Mentioned in the
Approved GFC Drawing.
7.5 Formation of pile bore shaft:
After the temporary casing has been installed, drilling continues from the top of the hole.
Boring will proceed with the auger or bucket or bailer/chisel until the required depth is reached.
Drilling mud Polymer/bentonite slurry will be kept in the pile bore hole up to the ground water
table to stabilize the soil and avoid soil collapse inside the bore.

7.6 Fabrication and lowering of the rebar cage:

Prefabricated reinforcement cage will be cleaned out of loose material and maintaining the
proper cover throughout the length of cage. Cage will be in two or three parts. Cage lowering
will be done from bottom edge to top edge (one after another) by welding the main vertical
reinforcement. Cage will be welded in between main vertical rod and stiffener to maintain
rigidity. Proper Cover to reinforcement shall be maintained as specified in Drawing by Concrete
Spacer(CircularCover Block) of same grade of concrete.
7.7 Tremie pipe fixing:

After completion of cage lowering, Tremie pipe of 200/250mm diameter will be provided
through the pile shaft. Tremie pipe will be fixed one after another by thread & socket joints. All
tremie joints should be air tight. Tremie length will be provided right up to required depth of pile
with minimum clearance to flow the concrete through the pipe.
7.8 Flushing / Cleaning of bore Hole:
1. After Completion of pile bore up to the required depth the pile bore shall be cleaned by
three Stage Flushing of slurry using airlift Technique. The stages are as below :-
a. After Boring
b. After lowering the Reinforcement
c. Before Starting the Concreting.
The bottom of the pile bore shaft be thoroughly cleaned by airlift technique. Cleaning
shall ensure that the pile bore is completely free from Sludge / Bored material, Debris of
Rock / Boulder etc.
Airlifting is normally carried out prior to concreting to remove debris and clean the base
of Pile bores. It’sessentially acts as an airlift pump by using compressed air. The setup
airlifting operation an arrangement will as below shown:
A hollow tube shall be placed inside the pile bore and a side tube shall be connected to
the end of the tube near pile bottom for the passage of compressed air inside the tube.
The upper end of the tube shall be linked to a discharge tank for the circulation of
pumped fluid from pile base.
The efficiency of airlifting operation dependent on the performance of air compressor.
During airlifting, Compressed air is piped down the tube and returns up to the discharge
tank carrying it with the fluid. It functions by imparting energy to the fluid and forces the
fluid to move vertically upwards. The injected air mixes with the fluid, resulting in the
formation of lower unit weight of the combined when compared with surrounding fluid.
This hydrostatic pressure forces the fluid / Air mixture up to the discharge tank.

Airlifting Operation of Bore Pile

2. Pile bore shall be cleaned by fresh drilling mud through tremie pipes before and after
placing the reinforcement and just before the concreting.
ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA FOR CLEANING
Drilling mud density of bottom of pile bore shall not be more than 1.25gm/ml in case of
bentonite Slurry. The bentonite slurry shall be maintained at 1.5 m above the ground
water level during boring operations and till the pile is concreted. The bentonite slurry
shall be under constant circulation till start of concreting.
