4 TV EKSWELA TEACHER: In today’s episode you are hereby asked to watch

5 attentively because at the end of this lesson, you are expected to understand the

6 different parts of the brain,

7 CUT TO ILLUSTRATION OF A BRAIN

8 its processes and functions that affect your thoughts, behavior and feelings.

9 TEXT OVERLAY: THOUGHTS, BEHAVIOR AND FEELINGS.

10 TV EKSWELA TEACHER: You’ve heard it right! Our topic for today is all about

11 the brain. So, freshen up your minds because we’ll now start the lesson after these

12 few reminders.

13 INFOMERCIAL 1.

14 TV EKSWELA TEACHER: And now we’re back. For today’s lesson, we will be

15 dealing with the new scientific discoveries of the brain, and how they affect

16 learning. At this point, I want you to use the power of your brain by simply

17 analyzing the situation puzzle.

18 CUT TO ILLUSTRATION OF A PUZZLE AND TEXT OVERLAY: SITUATION

19 PUZZLE

20 CUT TO PRESENTATION OF THE SITUATION PUZZLE:

21 VO: 1. You were driving down the road during a stormy night when you happen

22 to see a bus stop. There, you saw three people waiting for the bus:

1 A. An old lady who’s sick and about to die;

2 B. An old friend who once saved your life; and

3 C. The perfect partner you have been dreaming of.

4 VO: Knowing there can only be one passenger in your car, whom would you

5 choose and why? (PAUSE)

6 TEXT OVERLAY: KNOWING THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE PASSENGER IN

7 YOUR CAR, WHOM WOULD YOU CHOOSE?

8 TV EKSWELA TEACHER: Very good! You have chosen the old lady, why?

9 because after helping the old lady into the car, you can give your keys to your

10 friend who once saved your life and accompany your perfect partner in the bus.

11 TV EKSWELA TEACHER: Do you want another puzzle class? (PAUSE)

12 Wow that’s good ok here’s another one. Watch attentively and analyse the next

13 situation.

14 CUT TO PRESENTATION OF THE SITUATION PUZZLE

15 VO: Acting on an anonymous phone call, the police raided a house to arrest a

16 suspected murderer. They don't know what she looks like but they know her

17 name. She is May and she is inside the house. The police busted in on a carpenter,

18 a truck driver, a mechanic and a businesswoman all playing poker. Without

19 hesitation or communication of any kind, they immediately arrested the

20 businesswoman. How do they know they've got their suspect?

21 TV EKSWELA TEACHER: Did you understand class? (PAUSE) Very good! What

22 is your answer, then?

23 TEXT BUBBLE: CORRECT!

1 -MORE-

2 TV EKSWELA TEACHER: The businesswoman is the only woman in the room.

3 The rest of the poker players are men.

4 TV ESKWELA TEACHER: In the situation puzzles we have analyzed, what organ

5 was working? (pause)

6 TEXT BUBBLE: CORRECT!

7 TV ESKWELA TEACHER: That’s right! Your brain is working in the given tasks

8 because you thought of the solutions to the puzzles. Now, can you tell me your

9 ideas about the brain? What are its uses and functions (Pause)?

10 CUT TO ILLUSTRATION OF THE BRAIN.

11 TV ESKWELA TEACHER: Wow brilliant idea, that’s right!

12 CUT TO PRESENTATION OF THE DEFINITION OF BRAIN

13 CUT TO ILLUSTRATION OF A BRAIN

14 VO: Brain is one of the largest and most complex organs in the Human body. It is

15 made up of more than 100 billion nerves that communicates trillions of

16 connections called synapses.

17 CUT TO TEXT BUBBLE: SYNAPSES

18 VO: Synapses are found where nerve cells connect with other nerve cells.

19 TV ESKWELA TEACHER: They are the key to the brain function, especially when

20 it comes to memory, is that clear? ( pause)

21 TV ESKWELA TEACHER: Class the brain has three major parts- the cerebrum,

22 the cerebellum, and the brain stem.

TEXT OVERLAY 3 MAJOR PARTS OF THE BRAIN: CEREBRUM,

1 CEREBELLUM, BRAIN STEM.

3 CUT TO PRESENTATION OF THE FUNCTION OF BRAIN STEM:

4 VO: The brain stem connects the spinal cord and the brain. It controls functions

5 that keep people alive such as breathing, heart rate, blood pressure and food

6 digestion. Those activities occur without any thought.

7 TV ESKWELA TEACHER: You aren’t telling yourself, “Inhale, exhale, inhale”

8 You’re just breathing. Things are different in the cerebellum.

9 TEXT OVERLAY: CEREBELLUM

10 CUT TO PRESENTATION OF THE FUNCTIONS OF CEREBELLUM:

11 VO: Cerebellum is the region that controls voluntary movement. When you want

12 to lift your fork, wave your hand, brush your hair or wink to a cutie, you form the

13 thought and then an area in the cerebellum translate your will into action,

14 TV ESKWELA TEACHER: The third part is the cerebrum; it is the largest of the

15 three brain sections and accounts for about eighty five percent of the brain’s

16 weight. This part of the brain has four lobes.

17 TEXT OVERLAY: CEREBRUM

18 CUT TO PRESENTATION OF THE FRONTAL, PARIETAL, TEMPORAL AND

19 OCCIPITAL LOBES

20 The frontal, parietal, temporal and occipital are the four lobes of the cerebrum.

21 Each of these lobes has specific functions. Their names were taken from the

22 sections of the skull which are next to them. the parietal lobe helps people

understand what they say and feel,

1 TEXT OVERLAY PARIETAL LOBE HELPS PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND

2 WHAT THEY SAY AND FEEL

3 -MORE-

4 while the frontal lobe determines personality and emotions.

5 TEXT OVERLAY FRONTAL LOBE DETERMINES PERSONALITY AND

6 EMOTIONS

7 Meanwhile, Vision functions are located in the occipital lobe,

8 TEXT OVERLAY VISION FUNCTIONS ARE LOCATED IN THE OCCIPITAL

9 LOBE
10 Hearing and word recognition abilities are processed in the temporal lobe.

11 TV ESKWELA TEACHER: Did you get it, class? (PAUSE) Very good. New

12 concepts about the brain will be discussed further after these few reminders.

13 INFOMERCIAL

14 TV ESKWELA TEACHER: You’re still watching TV Eskwela for Personal

15 Development. Now, let’s proceed with our lesson. Are you familiar with the term

16 brain lateralization?

17 TEXT OVERLAY: BRAIN LATERALIZATION

18 Good to hear that.

19 CUT TO PRESENTATION OF BRAIN LATERALIZATION

20 VO: Brain lateralization is a complex and ongoing process by which different

21 regions of the brain “takeover” the functioning of specific behavior and its

22 cognitive skills.

TV ESKWELA TEACHER: Lateralization literally means that certain functions are

1 located (in par or total) on one side of the brain. That’s why we have our left side

2 of the brain and right side of the brain for specific functions.

5 CUT TO ILLUSTRATION OF THE RIGHT AND LEFT BRAIN.

6 Let’s dig deeper with the right hemisphere.

7 CUT TO PRESENTATION OF THE RIGHT BRAIN

8 VO: The right side of the brain includes the following functions: your intuitive

9 thought, holistic perception, random sequencing, emotional thought, non-verbal

10 adventurous, impulse, imagination left field version, and left side motor skills.

11 TV ESKWELA TEACHER: Also, The right side controls attention, memory,

12 reasoning, and problem solving. On the other hand, left hemisphere is responsible

13 with logic and academic functions.

14 CUT TO PRESENTATION OF THE LEFT BRAIN

15 VO: The left brain is responsible for your analytical- thought. Some of its

16 functions include detail-oriented perception, ordered sequencing, rational

17 thought, verbal, cautiousness, planning, math/science, logic, right field vision, and

18 right-side motor skills.

19 TV ESKWELA TEACHER: To sum it all, the brain is one of the most important

20 parts of the body, and is divided into left and right side, each with specific

21 dominant functions. Did you understand the different parts, processes and

functions of the brain? (PAUSE)

CUT TO PRESENTATION RESEARCHERS BELIEVE

1 VO: Researchers believe that the brain dominance determines a person’s

2 preference of problem solving style, personality characteristics, and even career

3 choices. For example, a right brain individual will quickly get a feeling for a

4 situation while a left-brain person will usually ask a lot of questions first.

5 TV ESKWELA TEACHER: Did you understand our lesson class? (PAUSE) Very

6 good! For now, you have to brace yourselves because when we get back, an

7 activity awaits you.

8 INFOMERCIAL 3

9 TV ESKWELA TEACHER: And now we’re back! For our activity, kindly get a

10 piece of paper and divide it into two columns.

11 CUT TO ILLUSTRATION OF A PIECE OF PAPER.

12 TV ESKWELA TEACHER: Your task is to check which side of the brain is more

13 dominant in you. Write the word YES if it applies to you and write NO if it
14 doesn’t. Are you ready? (pause) Let’s begin

15 CUT TO PRESENTATION:

16 1.I AM VERY ORGANIZED.

17 2.I AM VERY LOGICAL WHEN IT COMES TO DECISION

18 3. I ENJOY ANSWERING MATHEMATICS AND SCIENTIFIC QUESTIONS

19 4. I PERFORM WELL IN WRITTEN TASKS

20 5. I CAN’T BE CREATIVE AT TIMES

21 6. I AM RIGHT-HANDED

22 7. I EASILY LEARN OTHER LANGUAGES OR DIALECTS

VO : 1.I am very organized.

1 2.I am very logical when it comes to decision

2 3. I enjoy answering mathematics and scientific questions

3 4. I perform well in written tasks

6 5. I can’t be creative at times

7 6. I am right-handed.

7. I easily learn other languages and dialects.

8
TV ESKWELA TEACHER: If most of your answers are YES, this means that the
9
left side of the brain is more dominant in you. But if most of your answers are NO,
10
this means that your right brain is more dominant than the left. Now, which part
11
of your brain is more dominant? (PAUSE) Very good!
12
TV ESKWELA TEACHER: More activities await you after these few reminders.
13
INFOMERCIAL 4
14
TV ESKWELA TEACHER: You’re still watching TV Eskwela for Personal
15
16 Development. Now, let’s check how much you’ve learned from our lesson. For

17 your task, read the situation on your TV Screen, analyze them, and answer the

18 comprehension questions given.

19 CUT TO PRESENTATION OF THE SITUATION:

20 VO: Mark calculates and solves mathematical problems quickly and accurately. In

21 fact, he was the school’s representative in the Math Olympiad

22 2019. Subsequently, he portrays well as an actor in the

school’s theatrical presentation and obtained a three-in-all

1 turns during the blind audition of The Voice. Indeed, Mark is

2 a mathematician and an up and coming artist.

3 TV ESKWELA TEACHER: Here are the questions.

4 CUT TO PRESENTATION OF THE QUESTIONS

7 1) How will you classify Mark? Is he more of a left or right-brained student? Why?

8 2.) Which functions do the right-handed differ from that of the left-handed

9 students or individuals? Explain briefly.

10 3.) What was the result of your handedness test? (pause) if you are left-handed,

11 how will you develop the functions and other specialized skills in your right

12 hemisphere to be ambidextrous? (pause) draw your personal plan to enhance your

13 brain functions.

14 TV ESKWELA TEACHER: I’m sure you have learned something new today. For

15 your activities, make sure to accomplish them during the allotted time for this

16 subject. For the checking of your journal, please drop it to the designated drop
