1. What is Research?

Research is defined as the creation of new knowledge and/or the use of existing


knowledge in a new and creative way so as to generate new concepts, methodologies and
understandings. This could include synthesis and analysis of previous research to the extent that
it leads to new and creative outcomes

2. Why does one conduct a research?

The main purpose of a research is to find answer to a certain problem in order to come
up to a satisfactory decision. Research was also conducted to give contribution to a previous
study that will make a great impact to the society. Research is a great way to explore new ideas,
explain specific topics, apply proven studies to a real-world problem.

3. Differentiate quantitative research method from qualitative?

Quantitative research is expressed in numbers and graphs. It is used to test or confirm


theories and assumptions. This type of research can be used to establish generalizable facts
about a topic. Common quantitative methods include experiments, observations recorded as
numbers, and surveys with closed-ended questions.
Qualitative research is expressed in words. It is used to understand concepts, thoughts
or experiences. This type of research enables you to gather in-depth insights on topics that are
not well understood. Common qualitative methods include interviews with open-ended
questions, observations described in words, and literature reviews that explore concepts and
theories.

4. Give and discuss at least 3 characteristics of research.

*Methodical - Research is conducted in a methodical manner without bias using


systematic method and procedures.
Research must follow a strict method in order to come up to a trusted and unbiased
study that will be used in a real-world problem.
*Empirical - Research is based on direct experience or observation by the researcher.
Research must be real, not only imaginable through someone’s mind. The researcher
must be the one to observe the nature of the topic, get straight information and assess the data
acquired.

Critical - Research exhibits careful and precise judgment.


Research must never be opinionated. It follows a critical and concise way of coming up
to a factual and credible answer.
