SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY: SEEKING TRUTH


According to Hannu Rajaniemi, there’s a name for the time in our lives where everything we
think we know turns out to be wrong. This is true. When we we’re still young, we already have our prior
knowledge or conceptions about the natural world before we may even begin to study science and
technology in our classroom. Some of these served as a good foundation while others may be
incompatible with the truth or with the accepted scientific knowledge. In this generation of
modernization, we too often thinks that inventions and their uses are the only things about the science
and technology. We fail to give emphasis on it’s very purpose or essence and that is seeking truth. Since
it has been misinterpreted by so many different people, it is only through the study of history that it will
be understood. The information it hasbon it’s historical records provide grounds for interpretation and
may be useful in arousing appreciation for Science and Technology. We could only appreciate it by
having better understanding of it and its influence in today’s generation. This can only be done when we
present its history, next its philosophy and of course it’s social background. Another reason is that, we
learn how other people made discoveries like Marie Curie and Einstein and we learn new ways of
thinking that might allow us to make our own discoveries. As what Hannu Rajaniemi said, everything is
connected and in order to understand anything we have to understand everything.
