We can say that reading is one of the very important element in education.
Understanding what we are reading is a key and is certainly the main point of teaching
in a class.
Reading is fundamental to function in today’s society, it is a vital skills in finding a
good job and is important because it develop one’s mind.
It is a magical thinking to believe that the pupils learned because we teach and
one of the important skills that needs to be developed in children is reading.
Last March 1, 2019, the school conducted a SLAC Session about Reading
Assessment to all grade level at Pandi Residences Elementary School. The objective of
this SLAC Session is to determine the reading readiness level of the learner and level of
proficiency of the learner. It was initiated by our school principal, Dr. Lisette M. Gregorio
together with the different teachers. During the session, there were a conference
wherein tackled the results of the PRE-Reading Assessment and have a brainstorming
on the different projects and interventions used by the teachers to improve the reading
skills of the learner. The following are some of the insight that teachers get in the said
conference:
1. Update themselves with the modern techniques, methods and strategies in teaching
reading with or without comprehension.
2. Give ample chance and encourage pupils to articulate their ideas in class (ex. Story
retelling, debate or smart-talking).
3. Exert effort to assist the slow learners.
4. Have a peer-tutoring sessions.
5. Develop the pupils’ ability to answer why and how questions or HOTS.
6. Most of all, have the heart of being a second parent to pupils to guide them to read
well
and develop reading skills.
NARRATIVE REPORT ON EVALUATION
The principal elements that make teaching and learning process possible and
attainable are the teachers, the learners, and a conducive learning environment. The
teacher serves as the prime mover of the educational wheel. The learners are the key
participants in the learning process. The favorable environment provides essential
features and ingredients needed for a smooth linkage among the three.
Last March 4, 2019, all teachers conducted a POST-Reading Assessment in all
grade levels at Pandi Residences Elementary School, they applied the latest
procedures and guidelines in PHIL-IRI, they also used the different strategies and
interventions that they tackled during their SLAC Session. After reading assessment,
there were a conference wherein we tackled and discussed the results of reading
assessment. And to develop more pupils’ love for reading, Pandi Residences
Elementary School has initiated different reading programs and strategies to ensure that
every child a reader. These will strengthen them in the development of attitudes and
skills in reading and speaking which will make them productive and empowered
individual, team member and citizens. They are expected to become more capable of
communicating in all content areas.
