Lesson 3 - Comm Model PDF

Here are the answers to the questions: 1. Noise refers to anything that interferes with or disrupts the clear transmission and reception of a message between the sender and receiver. Examples of noise include physical barriers, technological issues, environmental distractions, psychological factors, and more. 2. In the illustration, examples of noise include dropped calls, calls that echo, and faint signals. These issues hamper the clear communication of the message being sent from one phone to another. 3. Noise can negatively affect the transmission of a message by distorting, interrupting, or obscuring the message being sent. This disruption can lead to the message being received differently than it was intended or not received at all. 4

Aristotle’s Model
The first and earliest model is that of Aristotle
(5BC), who was a teacher of Rhetoric and even put
up an academy to produce good speakers. Although
Aristotle focused on the Speaker and the Message,
the most important part is his model is the

Shannon and Weaver’s Model

In this model, Shannon and Weaver assert that the Message
sent by the Source (Speaker) is not necessarily the Message
received by the Destination (Listener). This is due to the

technology, there are still barriers to clear transmission and

Wilbur Schramm’s Model

What is the Field of Experience? It is everything

that makes a person unique— everything he/she
has ever learned, watched, seen, heard, read, and
studied. In the other words, it is everything a
person has ever experienced or not experienced,
done or not done. In fact, this is practically
everything that has happened in his/her life. It is
this Field of Experience that is used to interpret
the Message and create a Response. It is also this
Field of Experience of the listener that needs to
overlap with the Speaker’s Field of Experience, which
can only happen when the two fields have
commonalities.
