A Detailed Lesson Plan in English Grade 10

At the end of the lesson, the students should have:
a) shared views about a literary text;
b) given word clues of opinion statements through a tag cloud;
c) formulated opinions about resolving the current social issues through the utilization of
one’s strengths; and

B. Presentation
Now, let us go back to your previous answers.
(The teacher will re-present their answers noted on
the board)
Since we are discussing your views about the
literary piece, what do you think is our lesson for
today based on the hints given?
OPINION
Very good. We shall discuss about the formulation
of opinions.
C. Lesson Proper
Based on your answers in the discussion of the
literary piece awhile back, what do you think is an
opinion?
Opinion is a statement of belief or feeling of what
seems is true.
Correct. Anymore?
Opinion is what someone thinks about a particular
thing.
Yes, that’s right because if you noticed, I was
frequently asking you a while ago what you think
about it.
Task 1: From your previous answers a while back, let us identify the opinion word clues to prove that your
statements are opinion.
(I think he is a musician.)
From this statement, what do you think makes it an
opinion? What opinion word clue is present?
I think
Very good. How about in this statement?
(I knew he is a musician because he has a lyre and
he plays music with it.)
I knew
Yes, you’re right. How about in this next statement?
(I believe it is his strength because through playing
songs, he can charm all things, tame wild animals,
and can even win sympathy.)
I believe
Correct. How about in this last statement?
(I can say that he is madly in love with her because
when Eurydice died, he became so lonely that he
started playing sad songs.)
I can say that
Yes, you are right again.
Now class, what have you noticed with the opinion
word clues?
They are at the beginning of each statement.
Exactly and we call these word clues as introductory
phrases hence, opinions are signaled directly
through these phrases.
Do you know of other introductory phrases of
opinion other than the ones you have identified?
In my opinion
It seems to me that
In my own view
For me
I am confident that
I am convinced that
I feel
From what I know
Excellent. You are now familiar with the clue words
of opinion statements.
Task 2: Now this is the challenge. Find your pair and transform the following sentences taken from the story
into opinion statements by using the word clues.
There were nine goddesses called muses.
Eurydice stepped on a poisonous snake and died.
Orpheus continued to play his lyre tenderly as he made his way through the gloomy underword.
The ghosts cried when they heard his sad music.
Orpheus turned to make sure that he was still following him.
Are you done?
Yes, ma’am.
Exchange your papers to the other pairs and we’ll
check them.
(Students will check their papers as the teacher will
facilitate the discussion of answers.)
Task 3: Write opinions as to how can you help resolve the current social issues through your strengths and
abilities.
(See Appendix B for the worksheet)
Task 4a: Write a letter to yourself which you are only to open 20 years from now. Highlight in your letter
how you are able to capitalize your strengths to be a better person that you have become in 20 years
ahead of our time. Use statements expressing opinions in your letter.
IV. Generalization
