Chapter 3
Research Methodology
In this chapter, the methods, procedures and instrument that we will use in conducting this tracer study
in the BSOA PUP Taguig graduates’ batch 2017-2019 are presented.
Research Method
Since this is a tracer study, we will be using the descriptive method of research; the descriptive method
is an investigation which describes and interprets the nature of a situation as it exists at the time of the
study. The study used a descriptive research survey method to respond to the objectives of the study
with the validated tools used and the interview.
Description of Respondents
Sources of data will be the 139 BSOA graduates of Polytechnic University of the Philippines – Taguig
Branch from batch 2017-2019. Their general profile, educational attainment and their currently
employment status will be considered in the set of questionnaires that will be given.
Sampling Techniques
The researchers have 139 BSOA graduates as the total population count. A simple sampling technique
that fall on a gaming and lottery qualifications will be use to determine possible respondents for this
study.
Instrumentation
The researches will be using a survey questionnaire form from the Commission on Higher Education
(CHED) to gather the essential data for this study.
The researchers will use different social networking sites like Facebook, Instagram, Gmail or twitter in
order to reach out the target respondents.
Sources of Data
As an initial part of preparation, the researchers first gathered relevant information from the university
library from which the researchers are able to cite some examples of tracer studies, helping them to
have a clear vision on what to expect in the said study. The researchers also read about successful tracer
studies from other universities published on the Internet. This also helped them to orient themselves on
the standard procedure. Upon deciding that the Bachelor of Secondary Office Administration Graduates’
from Batch 2017-2019 will be the target population for the tracer study, the researchers then requested
a detailed master list of the said group. The BSOA graduates’, being the primary source of the data, will
be receiving questionnaires to be answered online from the researchers. In addition, the other sources
of information that the researchers used are books, unpublished materials and any other reading
sources that contain information related to the study. The researchers also made use of the Internet as
a source of information.
Research Locale
The study will be conducted at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines – Taguig City Branch with
their respective BSOA alumni as the respondents.
Statistical Treatment
This study will be using percentile and frequency distribution method to analyze and interpret the data.
Percentage
This was employed to determine the frequency counts and percentage distribution of personal related
variables of the respondents.
% = (F/N)x100
Wherein:
% = the percentage
F = the frequency
