MB-107 Business Environment and Business Laws (3 credits)

Course Objectives:
The student should:
 The objective of this paper is to sensitize the student about the business environment
in the Indian context.
 To analyse the political, economic, legal and technological environment for running
the business.
 To understand nature and scope of various factors in a business in the corporations.
 To apply various environmental analysis for a successful business.
 To understand, analyse, and interpret the laws of business in real situation.
Course outcomes
Students meeting above objectives will
 Recognize the different types of business and stages of development for
managerial interventions
 Analyse Planning and Designing of business organizations in various
situations
 Apply the concepts in day to day operations of a business.
 Understand the corporate governance and functions of key departments of the
business entity
 Analyse the political & legal environment for improvement of the
organisation
 Analyse the role of legislative, judiciary and executive in the functioning of
business.
 The student should be able to apply various laws like Indian Contract Act
1872, Sale of Goods Act 1930, Negotiable Instruments Act1881, Companies
Act 1956, Consumer Protection Act and Cyber Laws, and Competition act in
real business situations.

Unit-1: (5 Hours)
Business Environment: Concept, Nature and scope of Business Environment,
Global Business Environment, and Business Environment in the Indian
context [6]
Unit-2: (10 Hours)
Economic Environment : Types of economic policies, economic liberalization,
fiscal and monetary policies and budget; WTO and international economy
Industrial policy– Trade Policy – Economic Development and role of
government – Privatization & Public Systems Management.
Unit-3: (8 Hours)
Political & Legal environment: Political institutions – Legislature –
executive – Judiciary interaction between political institutions and business,
firm; legal framework of business; Company laws; Labor legislations:
Consumer Protection Act, 1986.
Unit-4: (4 Hours)
Technological Environment; Impact of Technology, Technology and Society; Trends
in Technology Management, Issues & Challenges
Unit-5: (7 Hours)
Social Environment: Business and Society: Social responsibility of Business;
Social pressures, groups and dimensions. Natural Environment:
Environmental aspects in business – Environmental hazards: Government
role and interventions. [6]

Indian Contract Act – 1872. Sale of Goods Act 193 0 - - Negotiable
Instruments Act 1881 – Companies Act – 1956 – Consumer Protection Act
