Growth is an evidence of life that involves adapting to environmental changes through healthy habits like exercise and diet. Both physical and mental growth are important, with mental growth being the most critical for personal development. Development occurs across one's lifespan in multidimensional ways and is influenced by both biology and environment. Key principles of human development include that it is lifelong, involves many dimensions, can be shaped by experiences, depends on context, and balances growth, maintenance and regulation at each stage of life. Patterns of development like cephalocaudal and proximodistal illustrate how growth progresses from head to tail and center to periphery.
