Home Assignment - 1

The home assignment document contains 10 numerical questions regarding electric field intensity and Coulomb's law of force between point charges. Students are asked to calculate things like the force between two point charges located at different points in space, the electric field intensity at given points due to multiple point charges, and determining unknown point charges given the force experienced by another charge. The questions cover key concepts taught in the Electromagnetic Waves course such as deriving expressions for electric field intensity and force between point charges.

Theory Questions (5 Marks each)

1) State and explain Coulomb’s law of force between two point charges in vector form.
2) Define Electric field intensity. Derive the electric field intensity due to ‘n’ number of
point charges.
3) Derive the expression for the electric field intensity due to infinite line charges.
4) Define Electric field intensity and using Coulomb’s law derive expression for electric
field intensity due to a point charge.

Numerical Questions (10 Marks each)

respectively. Find the force on Q1.

2) Two point charges Q1=100µC and Q2=10µC are located at points (-1, 1, -3)m and
(3, 1, 0)m respectively. Find the x, y and z components of the force on Q1. What is
the magnitude of the total force?

3) Let a point Q1=25nC be located at A(4, -2, 7) and a charge Q2=60nC be at B(-3, 4, 2).
