Activity 5: Blood Flows in Your Body

A. My Beating Heart
In this activity, your goal is to help your blood deliver materials through your body.

Read and follow the given clues to complete the task. You can use your ball pen or coloring
pen to connect the dots. For numbers 1-3, use a blue colored pen and for number 4 - 7 use a red
colored pen. Color blue represents oxygen-poor blood while red represents oxygen-rich blood. The
first line is done for you.
1. Your blood needs to travel to pick up oxygen. Draw a line from your upper body and connect
it to superior vena cava then another line from your lower body to inferior vena cava so that
your blood can enter the heart.
2. From the veins, your blood enters the right atrium. Your atria contracts and the blood flows
through the tricuspid valve and enters the right ventricle. Draw a line from the veins to the
right atrium, tricuspid valve and then the right ventricle.
3. When the ventricles contract, blood flows from the right ventricle through the pulmonary
valve and into the pulmonary artery. The blood now enters the lungs. Draw a line from the
right ventricle, pulmonary valve, right pulmonary artery and then the right lung. Draw
another line to the left pulmonary artery and then the left lung.
Hurray! You are now inside the lungs where your blood can pick up oxygen and lose carbon
dioxide. Now, your blood needs to go back to your heart.
4. From the lungs, your blood enters the pulmonary veins and moves to the left atrium. Draw a
line from the right lung to the right pulmonary veins and another line from the left lung to the
left pulmonary veins to the left atrium.
5. As the atria contract, blood flows through the mitral valve then to the left ventricle. Draw a
line from the left atrium to the mitral valve then left ventricle.
6. When the ventricles contract, blood flows from the left ventricle through the aortic valve into
the aorta. Draw a line from the left ventricle, to the aortic valve and then aorta.

7. Now, the blood is delivered to the rest of the body where the oxygen will diffuse into the cell
and carbon dioxide will diffuse into the blood. Draw a line from the aorta to the upper body
and another line for the aorta going to the lower body.
B. My Blood Flows Through My Body
Congratulations! You were able to complete your goal by delivering the materials through
your body. Now your task is to describe the path of blood in your body. Your description should
include the following.

 Type of blood (oxygen-poor


blood or oxygen-rich blood)
 Chambers of the Heart
 Valves Write here.
 Blood Vessels
 Part of the body (upper body
or lower body)
First, via the capillaries, the oxygen-poor blood from the upper part of the body then
travels to the superior vena cava. Oxygen- poor blood flows to the capillaries and then
to the inferior vena cava from the lower part of the body. Then it comes into the right
atrium from the veins. The blood passes through the tricuspid valve as the atrium
contracts, and then reaches the right ventricle. As the ventricle contracts, blood flows
through the pulmonary valve from the right ventricle and into the pulmonary artery
that goes to the lungs. Oxygen-rich blood comes into the pulmonary veins from the
lungs and travels to the left atrium. The blood flows through the mitral valve as the
atrium contracts, then to the left ventricle. Blood passes from the left ventricle through
the aortic valve into the aorta when the ventricle contracts, then to the capillaries. It
supplies the blood from the capillaries to the upper and lower part of the body where
oxygen diffuses into the cell and carbon dioxide diffuses into the blood.
