UNIT OF COMPETENCY Install Computer Systems and Network

MODULE TITLE Installing Computer Systems and Network


MODULE DESCRIPTOR: This module covers the outcomes required in
Planning, installing and assembling computer
systems, and testing performed installation.

NOMINAL DURATION: 60Hrs

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
At the end of this module you MUST be able to:
1. Plan and prepare for installation
2. Install equipment/device system
3. Conduct test

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:
1. Installation was properly planned and prepared to ensure that safety
measures, policies and procedures were followed, and that work is
appropriately sequenced in accordance with the industry standards.
2. Technical personnel were consulted to ensure that the work was coordinated
effectively with other people involved on the work site.
3. Computer systems and network devices were obtained in accordance with the
established procedures, and have complied with the requirements
4. Location where devices and systems to be installed is determined from job
requirements.
5. Materials necessary to complete the work were obtained in accordance with
established procedures and checked against job requirements.
6. Tools, equipment and testing devices needed to carry out the installation work
were obtained in accordance with established procedures and checked for
correct operation and safety.
7. Preparatory work checked to ensure that no unnecessary damage has
occurred and that work complies with requirements.

8. Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) policies and procedures [were] followed
in installing computer systems, network devices, and peripherals.
9. Computer systems, network devices and peripherals installed [were] obtained
in accordance with the established procedures and [has complied] with
requirements.
10.Appropriate procedures in installing computer systems, network devices and
peripherals were achieved in accordance with requirements, without damage
or distortion to the surrounding environment and services
11.Variation to devices/systems installation carried out in accordance with the
customer/client’s requirements
12.Unplanned events or conditions responded to in accordance to established
procedures
13.Approval is obtained in accordance with established procedures from
appropriate personnel before any contingencies were implemented
14.On going checks of the quality of the work, undertaken in accordance with the
established procedures
15.Circuits and systems were checked, being isolated where necessary, using
specified testing procedures
16.Parts or connections of the installation or service that were removed in order
to conduct the test, were stored to protect against loss or damage and in
accordance with established procedures
17.Approval obtained in accordance with established procedures from
appropriate personnel before any contingencies are implemented
18.Devices/systems and/or installation tested and were properly terminated in
accordance with the industry requirements
19.Parts and/or connections removed for testing returned to pre-test conditions
in accordance with established procedures
20.Final inspections undertaken to ensure that the installed devices/systems
conforms to requirements
21.Documents in relation to the test were forwarded to appropriate personnel
and/or authority in accordance with requirements
