Pre-Requisites: Knowledge of or Interest in Matrix Algebra and Multivariate Calcul Us

This document provides information about an Applied Multivariate Data Analysis course offered at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. The 3 credit course aims to introduce students to commonly used multivariate analysis techniques to solve business problems. It will cover topics like multiple regression, conjoint analysis, principal component analysis, factor analysis, cluster analysis, discriminant analysis, and logistic regression. Students will learn the theoretical underpinnings and assumptions of the techniques as well as apply them to real problems using software like R, SPSS, and SAS. Evaluation will include assignments, a short test, and a final exam. The course requires prerequisites in matrix algebra and calculus and an aptitude for quantitative modeling.

Objective

The main objective of the course is to introduce the students to some of the Multivariate Data
Analysis techniques commonly used in solving problems in business and management. The
focus of the course would be application orientation with some discussion on theoretical
underpinnings of these techniques. The assumptions underlying these techniques and their
limitations will be emphasized. The course will make use of statistical software like R, PSSS
and SAS.

mentioned multivariate techniques work.
2. Appreciating the areas of management problems and issues where they can be effectively
applied.
3. Getting hands-on experiences in applying these techniques in actual real life problems through
assignments.
4. Getting exposure to some of the application software that may be used in applying these
methodologies.
