Education is the most important factor in the development of a

March 2012 country.

Discuss.

Education plays a great role in our country development. It is not impossible for Malaysia to
be in line with other developed countries like Japan, China and United States if all parties cooperate
with each other to create more educated citizens. With the facilities of Internet and electronic
devices around us, we can get any information in just a few seconds without browsing a dictionary
or encyclopaedia. A lot of applications and website are created to supply information and knowledge
to all of citizen regardless ages and gender. Hence, I strongly agree that education is the most
important factor in the development of a country as it can raise the image of the country, help
people out of poverty and produce individuals with good characteristics and personalities.

First and foremost, education can raise the image of the country in the eyes of the world as
it can produce high quality of students in every aspect. This is because high quality of education is
capable to provide a good education on par with the quality of education in developed countries. For
example, there are several schools has held an exchange programme involving local and foreign
students. Through this program, students can engage themselves with various forms of smart
sharing with foreign students. So, the students can learn and share the learning process and
knowledge with one another. Apart from that, with proper education, our high quality students can
further their studies in top foreign universities such as University of Oxford, Cambridge University
and Harvard University. As a good example, a young Malaysian graduate, Lisa Kamal went viral after
her speech in the Convocation Day in University of Wisconsin, United States has mesmerized not
only the audience but thousands of citizens in Malaysia. In her speech, she inspired herself and other
graduates. This shows that the rate of education in Malaysia is equal to the other best universities in
the world. As a result, foreign society will look up Malaysia as a country with good quality of citizens
and this will helps in developing the country. In sum, it is clear that recognition from other countries
will be obtained if a country provides a high quality standard of education.

Moving on to the next point, education can also help people out of poverty and increase the
government’s fund. This is because when someone has a proper education from their parents and
teachers, they will definitely find a better career to support their lives. Nowadays, most of the
students benefit their skills and knowledge to find a better job. It is better for educated students
with skills compared to uneducated students with skills. It is because knowledge can prevent us from
being trapped with scammers in facing any situation. An educated person will think wisely before
speak or make a decision. For example, if an agricultural students graduates with flying colours in his
university, he can perform in agriculture sector and improve it with new and fresh ideas. The new
opinions from the youngster can upgrade the rate of agriculture in our country. Even though
venturing into agriculture is not a professional career like medicine and engineer field, it still can
guarantee millions of penny as long as the young generation put a lot of effort and do not easily give
up. Government authorities like FELDA and MADA also provides various aids for the farmers to start
their businesses in agriculture such as loan, soil and equipment. Therefore, the sector of agriculture
in Malaysia will develop rapidly and become more advanced as our country can generate high profit
from the process of import and export crop yields. Hence, it is true that education is necessary for
the development of our country since it can boost the earning of both citizens and country.

Last but not least, education can produce people with moral values and good personalities.
Moral values are vital in everyone’s lives because it can prevent us from any wrongdoings and bad
actions. This is because educated leader with good attitude and behaviour can conduct our country
to the bright future and carry out their trust with full integrity. Imagine that our country has an
irresponsible leader, of course our country’s development cannot be done smoothly and a lot of
conflicts will come out such as corruption, bias and abuse of power. As a good example, our former
Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri Najib Abdul Razak are accused from taking a bribery with billions amounts
of funds from 1 Malaysian Development Berhad (1MDB) in last a few years. As a result, the
administration remains inefficient and this has a detrimental effect on investment and trade.
Without or lack of business, the country's investment and trade will be poor and the people will
suffer. This shows that when a leader does not apply his knowledge properly, the administration of
country will be sluggish and many problems will occur. Other than that, educated leader also can
invent many alternative methods and give out extraordinary ideas in ruling the country. Therefore,
Malaysia will not left behind from our neighbour countries which are Indonesia, Brunei and
Singapore. In short, education is the most important element in the development of country as it can
produce responsible leader in conducting our country.

In a nutshell, education plays a great role in developing our country to the higher level as it
produce a well-disciplined people, leader with good moral values and helps people out of poverty.
The task of teaching and educating children is not only on the shoulders of teachers but parents also
need to play a role in education of their children. Thus, all of parents should provide a sufficient
education to their children so that their children can apply the knowledge in solving problems and
practicing it in daily lives. Besides, education is the most critical determinant in ensuring the
successful development of a nation and country. Therefore, to ensure that the aspirations of the
country can be realized by 2020, the education system in Malaysia must move as smoothly in line
with the spirit of 2020 to achieve a fully developed country according to its own mould.
