Quick Calculations - Text.Marked

Mental calculation tricks from Vedic Mathematics can greatly speed up calculations. [1] Two-digit multiplication tricks work when the ones digits add to 10 or one is a 5, using multiplication and placement of partial products. [2] Multiplying two different two-digit numbers involves separately multiplying the ones and tens and adding the results in the correct place. [3] These techniques can be extended to larger numbers by separating into place values and adding partial products. The document encourages exploring why these quick calculation methods work.

QUICK CALCULATIONS

Mental Calculation is an Art. The quicker you are in calculations, the greater your
success is, in dealing with the subject.

There are a lot of quick calculation tricks that are given in Vedic Mathematics.

You can learn some of them here. When you have mastered them, it is important

ia
for you to explore and find out WHY THEY WORK THE WAY THEY WORK.

1. Two Digit Multiplications: One’s digits end in 5 and tens’ digits are the

nd
same. This also amounts to squaring any two digit number ending in ‘5’.

3 5 Step 1: Multiply 5 x 5 = 25 and write it down.

x 3

Step 2: Multiply ‘3’ by its next number ‘4’ and put
down the 12 before the 25.

1225 is your answer.

2. Two Digit Multiplications: One’s digit add up to 10 and the tens’ digits are
the same.

7 3 Step 1: Multiply 7 x 3 = 21 and write it down.

Step 2: Multiply ‘7’ by its next number ‘8’ and put

x 7 7 down the 56 before the 21.

56 21
th

5621 is your answer.

3. Two totally different two-digit numbers:

Ma

3 2 x 1 4 = 314 8= 448
2
Step 1: 2 x 4 = 8 (right most digit)

Step 2: 3 x 1 = 3 (left most digit)

Step 3 : (3 x 4) + (2 x1) = 12 + 2 = 14(middle place).

Put down only 4 and carry over ‘1’ to 3 and add ; 3 + 1 = 4

7x4=28
4. Bigger numbers:
9x9=81

28+81=109

9x4=36 7X9=63

9 7 x 49 =

Next step: Add carry overs
10 +1 6+9 = 15

Try these:
Fu

45 x 45 = 47 x 43 = 47 x 12 =

55 x 55 = 58 x 52 = 58 x 21 =

65 x 65 = 66 x 64 = 66 x 22 =
th

75 x 75 = 71 x 79 = 71 x 19 =

85 x 85 = 84 x 86 = 84 x 32 =
Ma

95 x 95 = 98 x 92 =

105 x 105 = 103 x 107 =
