This lesson plan is for a 3rd grade math class on human multiplication. Students will learn multiplication facts and become fluent in them by writing down key points from the standard and objective. They will then practice multiplication by getting into groups representing multiplication problems, like having 5 students in a row and 4 across to show 5 x 4 equals 20. Finally, students will take a test to assess their mastery of multiplication.

Name of Lesson: Human Multiplication
Grade Level: 3rd grade
Suggested Group Size: Whole Group Subject: Math Standard: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.OA. A.1 Interpret products of whole numbers, e.g., interpret 5 × 7 as the total number of objects in 5 groups of 7 objects each. For example, describe a context in which a total number of objects can be expressed as 5 × 7. Objective: Students will learn their multiplication facts and become fluent in them. Materials: Pencils, notebooks, and bodies Procedures: Begin by having students join on the floor with pencils and notebooks. Next go over the standard and objective with the class which can be found on the board. After going over the standard and objective have students write the title of the lesson down and begin to go over the lesson. Have students write down things that are highlighted. Now they finish writing have student put their belongings back on their desk and have them go to one side of the room. Next think of a multi plication fact. For example, 5x4, have 5 students get in a row (vertically) and 4 students get in a column (horizontally) then have other students fill in the rows till all 20 spots are filled. Finally ask students what 5x5 is, show the class how we created 5 rows and 4 columns and filled them in to get 20 as our answer. (If the answer is bigger than the number of students use chairs) Assessment: After insuring students are fluent and know how to multiple, they will be given a multiplication test to ensure they have mastered the topic of multiplication.
