Reflection Paper in CM3
Climate change has been a very vital risk to us humanity. It defines varieties of
issues of our time and wherein from shifting weather patterns, greenhouse gases,
pandemic and to rising sea levels that increase the risk of catastrophic flooding, the
impacts of climate change are global in scope. Thus, referring to the webinar “Green
Education - Change is coming” that i have watched, the 5 interesting points that strikes
me the most are: First, “we are facing a dual cyclone in the time of COVID 19” due to
the fact that I completely agree wherein just like a cyclone this situation is of significant
concern because us people are living at higher risk of severe COVID-19-related illness
and death. Second is “the gravest effects of all attacks on the environment are suffered
by the poorest” wherein it is extremely true because those people who are unfortunate
have been more likely to have an disadvantage and can be highly affected whenever
there will be any calamities and other catastrophic events. Third, “Climate change is a
medical emergency” because climate change is constantly related to any medical
emergencies that should not be neglected due the fact that climate change, together
with other natural and human-made calamities, influences human health and disease in
numerous ways. Fourth, “Climate change has worsened and ravages of pandemic,
People in developing countries like the Philippines suffer the most, We cannot afford to
suffer more” this strikes me the most because I completely and extremely agree that we
cannot afford to suffer anymore because we all know that most people in our country
has been very unfortunate when it comes to earning money and that we are in a 3rd
world country wherein most of our country men cannot afford to be affected on an
outbreak and climate change. Lastly, “The Philippines joined the Paris agreement to
fight climate change” struck me because for me it is a good step due to the fact that the
Paris Agreement aims to strengthen the global response to the threat of climate change.
My most powerful learning or rather realization in this webinar is that climate change is
not only a normal issue but rather is a global issue because climate change is a vitally
urgent global challenge with long-term implications for the sustainable development of
all countries and can highly affect every day to day human activities. To be honest, after
watching and listening to the webinar I am starting to get scared of how climate change
can cause a long term impacts and that climate change is really a tremendous problem
especially here in our country. Due to the fact that it’s causing a wide range of impacts
that will affect virtually everyone living here in the Philippines in increasingly severe
ways.Wherein, we cannot afford to suffer more than what we are currently experiencing
recently. Therefore, on my own capacity, I can be a part of the solution to address this
environmental problem caused by climate change most especially that my generation
would be greatly affected due to the crisis by educating myself about how climate
change can have a long term impact because I believe that it would enable me to make
more informed decisions and make sustainable changes in my lifestyle. Lastly, I will do
my best to get involved or rather participate in conservation efforts in our area that I
think is one of the great ways to help fight climate change. However, I know that it would
somehow be difficult to do but still I would like to advocate it step by step to my
generation.
