Research in South Asian Studies: A Platform for Dialogue

Workshop for Doctoral Researchers

20th and 21st July 2017, Conference hall,

French Institute of Pondicherry

No: 11, St. Louis Street, Pondicherry 605 001.

"South Asian studies" is an important field of research in various universities in India as

well as abroad. The broadest definition of this field of research includes the study of
Indian languages and its literature taking into account, Social, Political, Historical and
Archaeological perspectives, its Linguistics and Folklore as well. Thus, it is important for
researchers, working on any one aspect of South Asian studies to be in close contact with
other researchers working on the same aspect or different ones in other universities and
Institutions in order to strengthen further their own understanding. This will give a chance,
among other things, to face/ put in context, the challenges of their research. A dialogue
between the researchers among various universities about their research is the first step.
The IFP has been conducting this research workshops between the people involved in
South Asian Studies and especially students, every year, from 2009.
