This is good news for you! The funding you are raising is used to support the SDWR
mission of placing service dogs with disabled children. Once your fundraising
requirement is well undenrvay you will then qualify to receive one of our specially trained
dogs. Itwill cost SDWR nearly $48,000 to place a service dog with yourself oryour child
so any amount of money you raise that exceeds your minimum requirement of $25,000
will certainly make it possible for us to train even more dogs for more individuals. We do
offer opporiunities to fundraise as a volunteer to our program over a three year period,
however many families complete their fundralsing goal during our reservation wait period
of currently 10 months.
SDWR wiil assist you with fundraising ideas. We have a handout titled Fundraising - A
Great Start with many wonderful ideas on ways to raise money for SDWR, These ideas
will usually bring in much, if not all of the money needed to fulfill your fundraising
requirement. This amazing document is provided as part of the acceptance packet only.
Remember, SDWR is not asking you to go out and fundraise for yourself, independent of
SDWR. You are required to "volunteer" to fundraise for SDWR as a sort of "partnership"
in providing a service dog to you.
We are heie to guide you, approve all fundraising efforts, make changes on all material
going out to the public, and offer suggestions to improve your efforts.
You will not be sent out to raise money on your own, which can seem Very
overwhelming, you are volunteering for and working with SDWR'
We will be here to support your efforts in any way that we can.
The donations you helped to raise for SDWR are not returned. These are monies given
to SDWR as a donation and will be used by SDWR to continue our service dog
placement services.
Please be clear on this topic of discussion, SDWR will NOT quit working with you as
long as you are making the efforts needed. We will support you in any way and stay with
you until all funds are raised. No family who has honestly worked at fundraising has not
received their dog! What if I can afford to just pay the money or my family wants to just
pay the money?
ln the event that a participant has the means to provide the amount of their fundraising
requirement themselves, they may make a personal donation to SDWR. lt must be
clearly understood that this is a donation made to the agency and NOT a fee paid to
"buy" the dog. Whether a person is fundraising or personally donates the fundraising
requirement, they must still meet the other contracted requirements to get a dog. The
contract is provided before you begin your fundraising requirement.
lf the person fails to meet the contracted agreement and no dog is placed, or a dog is
removed after placement, the money donated is not returned.
Remember it is a donation NOT a fee paid for the dog and fundraising is not the only
requirement you must meet to get a dog.
You should also know that how the dog is placed is not guaranteed by the fundraising
requirement. Let's say you have been approved for a Mobility Assistance Dog and wish
to take this dog into the public. You have finished raising money and the dog has been
fully trained. However, after the training period is over, you have not been able to
demonstrate that you can handle the dog in public; the dog will then NOT be placed for
use in public.
You will sign an agreement stating you understand the dog is for home use only until at
some later date you may be then able to demonstrate better control of the dog. lf you fail
to follow through on your requirements for getting a dog at any point during the entire
process, from fundraising through maintbnance of yearly certification the dog will not be
placed or may be removed from your home.
Again, please be assured, SDWR will provide a dog that was chosen and trained
specific to your needs. Your ability to handle the dog determines if the dog is placed for
use in the home or for use in public as well.
lf you fail to communicate with our trainers and follow through with our training sessions,
at this point would be as a direct result of your failure to meet the training requirements.
SDWR cannot simply hand someone a trained dog.
The recipient must learn how to use the dog both in the home and in public.
For checks, you first need to make sure that the check is made out to SDWR and not
you... If it's made out to you, we ask that you have the check re-issued as we can't give
them a receipt if it's not donated to us, but to you instead. Once you double check who
the check is made out you will then enter it on the tracking sheet and mail a copy of the
tracking sheet and all checks and money order or cashiers check to P.O. Box 647

Radio and newspaper is what you are allowed to do before you get your dog. We do like
to review all articles prior to making it to print, just to make sure the facts are all there and
clearly understood. We are happy to talk with reporters and help answer questions
that you may not be equipped to answer. Please give them the number for the main line.
540-543-2307. We would also like the article link or the radio sound byte when you are
done.
Television is NOT PERMITTED before getting the dog. We encourage your first
television video be delivery! lf you can arrange it so that there are people waiting there
when the dog first arrives, do it. Please notify your training staff first so they aren't
caught off guard of course. They will be there to answer any questions that the news
crew might have.
Flyers for every event must be approved as well. All flyers as well as social media blasts
must say "All proceeds are going to Service Dogs by Warren Retrievers and are tax
deductible." This informs everyone that they are donating to an actual non-profit
organization.
As your fundraising guidelines state (first two pages of the contract that you signed),
fundraising is a privilege, and should you fail to follow these instructions you will lose the
privilege of using our tax status and name.
Can I use your Logo?
Yes. Yes. Yes. YES!!!! We encourage all of our families to use our logo we just ask that
you not alter it in any way. Client Services will be able to provide you with the logo, you
just have to ask and we like to do a final approval of the location of the logo.
Hopefully this has answered your basic questions. lf not, please feel free to call and
discuss your questions or concerns with a SDWR staff member. We have placed several
hundred dogs in the community, using this process, and their recipients are thrilled to
have them!

Our dogs have countless hours of training by our staff & volunteers before
they ever get delivered to their forever homes
We return to each client's home every 90-1.20 days for a period of up to 1-B
There is never any travel required by the families to SDWR. Our trainers
travel directly to our recipient families with no financial burden for the
family. The organization absorbs all travel expenses.
Fundraising helps pay it forward so that the next family can receive a service
dog so that it is never a financial burden to the family. We believe no family
should have to pay for a service dog.
We have placed over 600 dogs across the country and served nearly a
thousand families,
SDWR offers a Lifetime Training Guarantee for all of our breeds. If the
service dog isn't fulfilling his/her capabilities or is not living up to his/her
training standards after completing the program and specific criteria is met
we offer this guarantee.
SDWR would like to clear up some misconceptions that the general public may have
about our service dog program. We like our Ambassadors to have all the facts for the occasion
that they are presented with inaccurate assumptions or people who don't understand the
program. ln addition to the information we have on our website, the details of the program are
explained to our Ambassadors throughout the enrollment process, through the application and
many other subsequent forms including the enrollmenVacceptance agreement that is sent at the
beginning of being accepted into our program. We understand that if you are newly enrolled in
our program, you may not know where to find this information, so we are happy to helpl
The common misconception from the general public is that this is 'stop, drop and roll'
program where we are done with a family as soon as the dog is dropped off, but that is opposite
the truth. There are internet trolls out there that gossip saying "SDWR dogs are not trained and
are dropped off at their forever homes without being taught how to help their new families."
Through this message, we hope to clarifu and dispel the falsaties by setting the record straight
with TRUTH in the details of how this program works.
Thetruth: The SDWR program_.lisnt just a 'Hey, here's your dog!', it is a customized
training program because we understand that every individual presents different symptoms and
that one dog will not perform the same tasks as another dog with a different family. The dog is
placed at the age of 18-24 months and has already been through some foundational training.
After delivery, the family & service dog will receive ongoing training & support over a period of
12-18 months. There will be routine follow up training visits approximately every 3-4 months to
refine skill sets and customize training skills that the family and your trainer will work on.
How can a dog's skill set be customized to the needs of a specific person's disability if
the dog never experiences learning with that person? How will a family know how to listen to the
dog and reinforce the skillsefs a dog is learning if our trainers just dropped a dog off and said
goodbye?
This program takes work and dedication, patience and persistence, communication and
commitment, because this is a training program. Even after the initial training, SDWR offers a
Lifetime Training Guarantee for if the dog needs his/her skills refined down the road. As we all
know, these dogs are not robots, and it takes time and repetition in their daily routine to ingrain
the tasks and skills they need to know.
The SDWR Program
We you to ask us directly any questions you may have aboutthe prggram
What you can expect: Once your pledge has been met, you will be required to update
necessary forms. You will have a period of silence, this is the hardest part, "hurry up
and wait" as things are in holding pattern until the next step. Once your selected dog is
chosen you can expect a telephone call from our training director. During this telephone
call you will learn of your new dogs name, coloring, gender, etc. Then you will be able
to ask all the questions pertaining to you specific dog that have come to mind during the
enrollment process.
You will also learn of a tentative time-frame in which to expect delivery of your dog.
Delivery of your service dog is between 3-4 days in duration. The trainer and your
service dog come to you. So, you and your family NEVER have to leave the comfort of
your own home and you can maintain your normal routine which is very important for
families with special needs like an invisible disability.
Your training program consists of a trainer returning back to your home routinely, every
3-4 months on average for another 1-3 days over a period of 18 months. Additionally
each family is expected to maintain a monthly check in log during the training period by
submitting them online for our trainers review so that progress is continually being
monitored and addressed. You will also be expected to follow the SDWR guidelines
during the training period. Your service dog is not a puppy. lt will be 18-24 months of
age with foundational training that SDWR will customize for your family from time of
placement over the next 18 months.
As we know, dogs.are living, breathing animals and are not robots. We understand that their
behavior, trained or untrained, is subject to change over time. Due to this we understand there
might be unforeseen moments where your service dog may not be performing as promised.
These instances are very rare, but we offer each of our clients a Lifetime Training Guarantee"
This means that if your service dog experiences a loss of training or is unable to perform, both
the client and the dog are welcomed back to our facility for retraining. Additional support may
also be provided through follow up consultations, phone calls, email support and/or dog and
client instruction.
Wrap-Up .
We hope you have found this packet helpful and full of useful
information and resources for the continuation of your journey in
obtaining a service dog for your family!
As you can see SDWR is unlike any other service dog program out
there. We are committed to each of our ambassadors and their
success and we know you are just as committed as we are!
