A. Transform each equation to center-radius form and determine its canter and radius.

1. X2 + Y2 + 8X – 14Y + 1 = 0

= X2 + Y2 + 8X – 14Y = -1

= X2 + 8X + 16 + Y2 -14 Y = -1+16

= X2 + 8X + 16+ Y2 – 14Y + 49 = 15 + 49

= ( X + 4) 2 + ( Y - 7)2 = √ 64

ANSWER:
h=-4
k=7
r=8

2. X2 + y2 – 2x + 12y – 12 = 0
= x2 + y2 – 2x + 12y = 12
= x2 – 2x + 1 + y2 + 12y = 12 + 1
= x2 – 2x + 1 y2 + 12y = 13
= ( x – 1)2 + y2 + 12y + 36 = 13 + 36
= ( x – 1)2 + ( y + 6) = √ 49
ANSWER:
h=1
k=-6
r=7
3. x2 + y2 + 4x – 5 = 0

4 2
= ( x2 + 4x +( ) )=5
2
= ( x2 + 4x + 4) = 5 + 4
= (x + 2)2 = √ 9
= x +2=0
=x=-2
ANSWER:
h=-2
r=3

4. x2 + y2 – 6y + 5 = 0

6
= ( y2 – 6y – ( )2 ) = - 5
2
= ( y2 – 6y + 9) = -5 + 9
= ( y – 3)2 = √ 4
=y–3=0
=y=3
ANSWER:
k= 3
r= 2

5.4x2 + 4y2 – 56x + 8y + 56 = 0

= 4( 4x2 – 4y2 – 56x + 8y + 56) = 0
= x2 – y2 – 14x + 2y + 14 = 0
= ( x2 – 14x + 49) + ( y2 + 2y -1) = -14 + 49 -1
= ( X -7)2 + (y – 1)2 = √ 34
x–7=0 y–1=0
x= 7 y=1
ANSWER: h = 7
K=1
R=1
B. Transform the following equation to general form, then graph the circle on the Cartesian
Plane.

1. ( x − 1)2 + ( y − 2)2 = 16
( x2 – 2x + 1) + (y2 – 4y + 4 ) = 16
( x2 – 2x + 1) + ( y2 – 4y + 4) -16 = 0
= x2 – 2x + y2 – 4y + ( 1 + 4 -16)
= x2 – 2x + y2 – 4y – 11
= x2 + y2 – 2x – 4y – 11 = 0

2. ( x + 4)2 + ( y + 3)2 = 25
( x2 + 8x + 16) + ( y2 + 8y + 16) = 25
( x2 + 8x + 16) + ( y2+ 8y + 16) -25 = 0
x2 + 8x + y2 + 8y + (8 + 8 -25)
x2 + 8x + y2 + 8y – 9
x2 + y2 + 8x + 8y – 9 = 0
2 2
3. ( x+ 1) + ( y − 1) = 36

( x2 + 2x + 1) + ( y2 – 2y + 1)= 36
( x2 + 2x + 1) + ( y2 – 2y + 1) – 36 = 0
x2 + 2x + y2 + 2y + 2 =0
