BRIEF INSTRUCTION ABOUT THE MODULE

This module is written in a user-friendly manner. The procedures


and instructions are very easy to follow and the activities are related to
what you are doing as a future teacher or a regular teacher.

As you commence reading, always remember that this module


becomes your friend. Carefully read the instructions and follow them
precisely as you would. There are varied activities that you will be doing like making researches,
answering checklists, analyzing and evaluating cases, and the like. Do not skip any of the pages
because you might miss some of the important points. There are activities that you will be required
to do in each of the lessons. Accomplish each one as you go along, module by module.

You will be preparing a Portfolio…where all answers and activity in every module will be
compiled. You will save this Portfolio in a separate file for submission.

At the start, you will find a pretest which will simply determine your entry behavior or find
out if you are ready to take the module. You will use a portfolio to supplement your overall progress
in the module.

There is no specific time frame for you to finish the whole module. However if you are
focused in your work, you can do lessons 1 to 5 in only four (4) weeks.

As you move along in this module, you are to track your


progress through your personal portfolio entries. A portfolio is a
collection of evidences to include artifacts, pictures, diaries,
testimonials and other personal evidences that reflect your collective
experiences and professional growth. This portfolio together with
your module test, quiz and activities will be collected by your mentor.

Your portfolio for Module 1-2 and 3 may have the following parts:

Welcome to this Module 1 entitled “ The Teacher and the School Curriculum” !

This module is all about YOU as a person and as a


prospective teacher. It also informs about the personality
traits and attributes of a teacher. Some qualifications and
standard requirements of a would be teacher are
discussed in this module and how you will relate to school curriculum.

This module will engage you in a dialogue and conversation about the
teacher as an individual person, traits, attributes and professional status…. who
possesses qualities of a good teacher.

The need to support prospective teachers is very crucial in the light of the
increasing demands for our quest for quality teaching and learning. Who make best
teachers? Do you possess the qualities to meet the challenges that is required in our
educational system today?

These are some Self Help Questions that is basic questions which you may
have been asking yourself at the beginning of your career. Activities and exercises
compiled in this module will assist you as you begin a very exciting journey in your
professional life. Knowing the answers to these questions will also help you prepare
yourself in your new world of work as a professional teacher.

As a beginning teacher, this module will help you reflect and clarify your
personal and professional attributes. It will assist you in your journey along your
career path as well as broaden your awareness regarding the basic theories,
concept and principles of school curriculum. Further, the module will open some
doors for your professional development.

This module involves varied thinking and doing skills which are needed by
teachers. In order to demonstrate and improve your skills, you must do some
reflections, introspections and information- gathering.
After using this module, you will be able to:
