III. PROCEDURE
Directions: What source of heat do you have at home? Read carefully the
power sources listed below and check (/) the corresponding boxes of your
answer.
Power Source Power Source
Oil Solar
Coal Fossil fuel
Natural gas Wood
Kerosene Heat pump
IV. ANALYSIS
Directions: Study the Philippine map in Figure 1. The dots on the map locates
where we can find geothermal and hydroelectric power sources. List the places
on the table and identify the major island (Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao) where
they belong.
V. GENERALIZATION
Where do geothermal and hydroelectric energy come from?

WATER RESOURCES
I.OBJECTIVE
1. Recognize how water is being distributed on Earth.
II. LESSON OVERVIEW
Water is known as the universal solvent that exist naturally. It can be found
around the globe in the form of gas, solid, and liquid. It is used every day by
man for bathing, drinking, cooking, washing, and others. Plants and animals
also used it for them to survive. In some scenario, it is being utilized to produce
electricity, means of transportation, and coolants on some engines. In other
words, water plays a vital role in making our lives very comfortable. But, do you
have any idea on the different resources of water and how water in our planet
is being distributed?
In this learning activity, you will learn about how Earth’s water is distributed
on the Earth’s surface and name some of the water resources. Are you excited
to learn more about water? Then, be ready to learn and accomplish the tasks
ahead.

SOIL QUALITY
I.OBJECTIVE
1. Identify human activities that affect the quantity and quality of the soil.
II. LESSON OVERVIEW
In this lesson, you shall be able to identify human activities, such as
farming, construction of structures, and waste disposal that affect the quality
and quantity of the soil. To achieve this learning competency, you should be
able to define each human activity, explain how these human activities affect
the quality and quantity of the soil.

IV. ANALYSIS
Directions: Read the given selection. Answer the questions that follow.
Soil helps sustain life on Earth-including our lives. It supports the growth of
plants, which in turn supply food for animals. Therefore, soil provides us with
nearly all the food we eat.
Besides supporting the growth of plants, soil plays other life sustaining
roles. It helps purify or clean water as it drains through the ground and into rivers,
lakes, and oceans.
The way people use land can affect the levels of nutrients and pollution in
soil. Any activity that exposes soil to wind and rain can lead to soil loss. Farming,
construction and development, and mining are among the main activities that
affect soil resources.
V. GENERALIZATION
How can we preserve soil quality and quantity?

VI. APPLICATION
How can the problem of soil loss on flat land be different from that on
sloping land?
