WOUND DRESSING

I. TITLE:
Teaching the proper way of wound dressing to the Community in Brgy.
Malunang, Sitio Banglid, Zarraga,Iloilo
II. OBJECTIVES:

GENERAL OBJECTIVES - At the end of the health education the patient and family member will
have in depth knowledge about “WOUND DRESSING”.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES - At the end of the session lecture, the people in the community will
be able to:

● describe the wound dressing


● enlist the purpose of wound dressing
● describe the principle of wound dressing
● enlist the advantages of wound dressing
● explain the procedure of wound dressing

MATERIALS:
● 70% Alcohol
● Betadine
● Hydrogen peroxide
● Cotton balls (dry & wet)
● Waste receptacle
● Apron
● Forecep
● Gloves
● Sterile gauze
● Kidney basin
● Dressing bandage /plaster to secure the dressing.

III. PROCEDURE:
A. Pre-activity
1. Devotional
a. Opening Song
b. Opening prayer
c. Reading of scripture
d. Closing song
e. Closing prayer
2. Opening remarks, greetings and introduction of the health teaching team
3. Explain the objectives, purposes and goals of health teaching
B. Lecture
1. Discuss the following:
● Define wound dressing.
● Enlist the purpose of wound dressing.
● Describe the principle of wound dressing.
● Enlist the advantages of wound dressing.
● Describe the types of dressing.
● Enlist the equipment of wound dressing.
● Describe the procedure of wound dressing.

2. Return Demonstration/ Application


Allow the participants to perform the proper way of wound dressing to
show what they have learn on the lecture
V. LEARNING ACTIVITY (main activity/ actual activity)
Discussion
1. Mini lecture about wounds:
a. What is wound dressing.
b. What is the purpose of wound dressing
c. What is the principle of wound dressing
d. What is the advantages of wound dressing
e. What are the types of dressing
f. What are the different equipments to be used for wound dressing
2. What is the procedure for wound dressing
a. Discuss what are the needed materials for wound dressing
b.Edify the proper way and sequence of wound dressing
Return demonstration/ Application:
1. Prepare all the materials needed
2. Perform the demonstration of proper wound dressing and proper
sequence w/ aseptic technique
3. Allow the participants to perform the same sequence and proper
way of wound dressing to assess if they learned from the lecture
and discussion.
VI. SYNTHESIS:
At the end of the seminar/lecture, the participants or the people in the community
were able to describe the wound dressing,enlist the purpose of wound dressing,describe the
principle of wound dressing,enlist the advantages of wound dressing ,and know the correct
procedure of wound dressing

VII. EVALUATION (Question and Answer):


The team asked the participants some questions to inculcate and to determine if
the information is retained from the lecture/seminar.
● What is wound dressing?
● What is the purpose and principle of wound dressing?
● What are the advantages of wound dressing?
● What is the correct procedure of wound dressing?
● How to take care of your wound afterwards?

VIII. CLOSING ACTIVITY:


The student nurses will:
1. Thank the participants for participating and active joining in the
lecture and return demonstration
2. Thank the health teaching team by giving a certificate of
appreciation
3. Closing prayer
4. Provide snacks to the participants
