This document describes a project to design a Microsoft Access database system to manage a school library. The system needs to track students borrowing books, book inventory levels, and overdue books. It requires designing database tables, developing the Access system, and documenting the system for the librarian with screenshots and diagrams. The project will be assessed based on how well the system works, the quality of the database design and documentation, the interface design, and adherence to standards and style conventions.

Scenario
Mary, the librarian at your school, approached you with a problem that she needs you to help her
solve. She had a manual recording system for students borrowing and returning books from the
library. Things were straightforward, and she was used to her recording and checking amongst
the records for any overdue books. However, she noticed that some books are on-demand, and
they need to be with a student for at most one week. On the other hand, students require at least
a month to finish off some books such as novels. As they are not on-demand, it could be more
efficient to increase the amount of time a student can have. Mary also pointed out that she needs
to have a regular list of the students and their borrowing history so that she can present them to
the headmaster for statistical purposes. These changes are, however, difficult to implement using
the current manual system.

Since you are very familiar with Microsoft Access, you volunteered to develop a system for
managing the library books. The following are the major requirements

• The librarian can add a new student to the library system; for now, the most crucial
information is the student name and surname.
• A librarian can register a book to the system, and the most important fields are the book
title and the maximum borrowing period for the book and the number of such books in
stock.
• The librarian can record in the system when the student borrows a book from the library.
• The librarian can retrieve a list of remaining books in the library, i.e., for a particular book
it will be the difference between the original number of books and the books that are
borrowed by the students
• The librarian can retrieve a list of students that still have books that are to not yet overdue
and a list of students that have overdue books.

You are required to:

1. Design the database for the system.

2. Develop a Microsoft Access system for the above requirements.
3. Write a professional document describing your system to the librarian. That document
should work as a manual to the librarian. Use screenshots and diagrams where possible.

Note: Use the following marking Rubric to guide you.
