CHECKLIST FOR EARTHWORK IN EXCAVATION

A BEFORE EXCAVATION
1 Dimension of block as per drawing
2 Masonary pillars ( burjis )are erected as reference points.
3 Excavation is set out to line , curve , slope required
4 Provision of fences / barricades / caution tapes , if required.
5 Provision of adequate lighting arrangement for night work.
6 Benchmark for levels established
B DURING EXCAVATION
1 Excavated pits are adequately shored / timbered , if required.
2 Excavation is done from top to bottom to prevent cave in.
( underpinning & undermining shall not be allowed ).
3 Presence of underground utilities like sewer,water lines,cables.
( If YES then bring to the notice of Project Manager & take
adequate precautions while excavation )
4 Required level of excavation
5 Means of access & exit from work area.
6 Excavated material is kept away from edge of pit.
7 Heavy equipments like cranes, shovels etc.are kept atleast 6m
away from pit.
8 Danger signs are provided near area of excavation (for depth
greater than 1m.).
9 In trench excavation for pipes ,grips are dug to take socket ,
collars and joints of pipes.
10 Bed strata is as per design considerations (for high rise structures)
C AFTER EXCAVATION
1 Surplus earth ( less required for backfilling ) is disposed
off and area is kept clean
