DAY 1 COC 1

TRAINER: Okay Good morning everyone. I am Jeremy C. Ortega, I will be your trainer for
Bookkeeping Qualification. Welcome to Js Bookkeeping and Accounting training
Center located at #14 S. Marcelo Street, Maysan, Valenzuela.

Our vision is to to provide excellent quality training that will prepare trainee in a
competitive work environment

And Our Mission is, to become a well- recognized provider of quality workforce that
support greater community labor market through quality, affordable, adaptive and
relevant skills training

Before we proceed to proper orientation, we do first data gathering, by you fill out
self-assessment. This is done for recognition of your prior learning.

Here is data gathering form, you can fill it up for 5 minutes. Are you done, trainees?
Ok, here is Self- Assessment form and finished it for 10 minutes, finished?

Ok and lastly please answer this Pre-test. It has 40 items and gives it to me after 2o
minutes.
Are every done answering the pre-test? Ok. Later on I will provide you the result of
the test and group you based on the result of the RPL.

So, Let proceed with the orientation. Today, we discuss about CBT Orientation, and
the previously done Pre-assessment and the feedbacks. CBT Orientation has topic
about.
CBT Process flow, Principles of CBT, Trainers/and trainees roles, CBLM/ Tracking,
progress achievement Chart, Learning Activities.

Let’s start by defining CBT or Competency Based Training. By Tesda definition it is
the application of knowledge, skills and attitude required to perform work activities
to the standard expected in the work place.

And then the framework that will handle the competency is what we called CBT.
Where it is based on curriculum developed from competency standards defined by
the industry. Also, it’s based on a system by which the trainee is trained on the
basis of demonstrated ability rather than of elapsed time. And lastly, the
assessment that is with the CBT, is based on the collection of evidences of the
performance of work according to the industry required standards. Later on, you,
will be assessed based on your competency to be a candidate on the bookkeeping
qualification and become a Nationally Certified Bookkeeper.

There is difference on how learning approach are delivered in traditional and CBT.

These are:

In traditional approach there are little or no feed given. While in CBT, there is
immediate feedback and me as a trainer will guide you on how to do the tasks
based on your needs.

Another, in traditional approach, most of the students enter at about the same
time. Meaning, normally, school begin June as the start of the school year and ends
in March. Students who will fail need to undergo summer class or repeat on the
next school year. While in CBT, approach, you, as trainees, start, finished or re-
enter the program whole year round.

And, in traditional, INSTRUCTORS FOCUS ON MANAGING INSTRUCTION; CONTROLS


PACE
While in CBT, learning is self-faced. And that means I, as a facilitator, will provide
you learning materials that you can read on your own time, and then you can make
yourself available always on the practical work area for practice.

The rational of CBT is for us to go from traditional to individualized approach of


learning.

Let us go to the Principles of CBT.

There are 10 principles of CBT. One of this is Learning is modular in instructure. As I


mentioned earlier, I will be providing you with learning materials so we can go to
different competencies of this qualification.

Another is based on work that must be performed. Meaning, after getting the
competency and certificate for this qualification, you can use this as evidence to
apply work locally or abroad. TESDA certification are required as proof of skills.

And, It also, allows recognition of prior learning. AS what we did earlier, I


conducted Pre assessment through pre-test in order for me to understand whether
there are experience or beginner trainees in this class.

AS a trainer I have a role to do. Me as a trainer serves as a member to determine
what needs to be learned based on the RPL. I will also, solve and diagnose learning
problems. So if you have any questions, you can ask me so we can work on your
questions and provide answers. Is that clear? If that so, let’s proceed to your role as
a trainee.

AS a trainee, you may select what you want to learn,. You can approach me and we
can discuss whether you already experience on some competencies and work on
other competencies.
You can also requests to receive credit for what you already know. As mentioned,
again, I conduct RPL in order for me to understand which of you are already have
experiences based on this.

Now we go to CBT flow, It stars with you, entering the program, that’s why today, I
administered RPL, do the orientation, and explaining to you your Role and my roles.
And later on, you can try to select the competency that you want to start on and
then I will administer learning contracts and organize all learning strategies by
providing you with…. This… Learning packages, multimedia materials, user manuals
and I will also conducting demonstrations and afterwards, you need to practice
your skills and then you will received assistance on the various practice that you
will do.

You should continue to practice the tasks while I observe your performance and
then.. when we do the institutional assessment, you will rate your own
performance and I will tell you if you are ready for National Assessment base on
your performance in the institutional assessment. Now, if you satisfactorily
completed one competency you can go back to program and choose the next
competency to learn. And if you satisfactorily completed all the competency
required for bookkeeping qualification then I will recommend you for National and
assessment at such time, you can exit the program< But you can also ask me if you
just need one or two competencies. If that is the case, once you get your desired
certificate, you can exit the program. But you can re-enter the program anytime for
more certificate for the other competencies. If unfortunately you were not able to
show competency on various assessment, that we are doing, you can always go
back to the practical work area to for more practice and have the assessment
repeated.

Let us discuss the CBLM
This will be the source of information for you to acquire knowledge and skills. You
need to go through this CBLM and follow instructions. It has different portions. We
have in here information sheet which are the topics that you need read and learn,
We have self-check, quizzes for me to assess to underpinning knowledge. WE also
have, task sheet, job sheet and operation sheet that you will use for me to
understand your underpinning skills.

How will I track your learning progress? There are 3 tools that we will be using to
monitor your learning progress. First, I will provide you with the activity matrix. It
contains the topics the time and date and the area wherein we will go to do the
specific topic for that specific date. 2nd, I will track your progress to the different
competencies and learning outcomes using the progress chart. And lastly, I will
record in the achievement chart all the tasks that you have completed.

Ok now, I will show you the CBT areas where we are going to spend our learning
activities. The CBT areas are the map of the school. These are the 9 CBT areas.
Ma’am Anna, can you go with me.. Let us go first to the practical work area. This is
where you will do the practice and where I will do my own demonstration. Let us
go over here, ok. This is the institutional assessment area. We do here the
institutional assessment. You can use all the tools and equipment needed in the
assessment. Come on here, over her. This is the learning resource area. This is
where you will read the materials and browse your CBLM.

Now during the institutional assessment, you will be assessed on by 3 gathering
tools. These are demonstrations with oral questionings, Interview and written Test.

As mentioned these are the results of data gathering. I found out most of you are
teachers and there are some industry workers and the rest are students.

Having all these gathering tools, and results of the RPL, Ms. Anna, since you are a
beginner, I will assign you first on journalize transactions. And tomorrow, you need
to go to the practical work area to attend demonstration. And the Ms. Maja, since
you already have experience as a bookkeeper, Maybe I will assign you to perform
journalize transactions which I think you have not done yet. And you will also go to
computer laboratory in order to read Generally Accepted accounting principles.
Other trainees, I will assign you to different areas and competencies where you will
start.

This is the result of pre-test. Again, I am not expecting high scores but this is
manageable so I already know the baseline knowledge based on the result.
