4.is It Suitable For Diagnosing Hypoglycemia 4m

The oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) measures a person's blood glucose levels both fasting and after consuming a sugary drink to determine their body's ability to process glucose and diagnose conditions like prediabetes, gestational diabetes, and insulin resistance. During the test, patients fast overnight, have an initial blood sample taken, drink a glucose solution, and provide additional blood samples over the following hours, with levels under 7.8 mmol/L after 2 hours indicating normal tolerance and over 11.0 suggesting diabetes. Factors like medications, activity, fasting status, and test duration can impact results.

1.

brieflly explain concept of oral glucose test 8m

The OGTT is used to determine the body's ability to handle glucose. It is also useful in diagnosing prediabetes,
insulin resistance, and gestational diabetes in preg women.

In this test, the patient will be asked not to eat drink for up to 8 to 12 hours before the test. During the test, blood
will be taken to measure blood glucose level and then the patient will take a very sweet testing glucose drink.
Further blood samples will then be taken either at regular intervals of say 30 or 60 minutes or a single test after
2 hours.

For people, without diabetes, the blood glucose reading would be under 7.8mmol/l after 2 hours while people
with impaired glucose tolerance, meaning blood glucose is raised beyond normal levels, but not high enough to
warrant a diabetes diagnosis, will have a blood glucose level of 7.9 to 11.0. For people with diabetes, their blood
glucose level will be over 11.0.

2.relating to glucose hemeostasis, comment onn result 8m

Based on our results, the blood glucose level increase after 1st hrs of drinking the glucose water. Then it decrease
back down to 6.8 after the 2nd hrs.

The increase in blood glucose level is caused by the intake of the sugar water which is normal for it to rises right
after a meal.

The glucose level then falls back due to the negative feedback.

When the blood glucose rises, the pancreas release insulin causing the liver in the body to absorb glucose from
the blood and stores it as glycogen .This lower the glucose level to normal level.

If it does not falls back that’s mean the body is not producing enough insulin.this can also means that the patient
is suffering from diabetes.

3.what can contribute to error 6m

Taking medication before test such antibiotics shown to cause elevated blood ssugr levels nd some medication
can increase insulin secreation which will disrupt the result.

Being too active can trigger the body to release stress hormones, like adrenaline and cortisol. Adrenaline can
stimulate the liver and the adrenal glands to release glucose and cortisol which makes you more resistant to
insulin.

Not fasting will distort the result ans the resut will not be accurate. The vitamins, minerals, fats, carbohydrates,
and proteins that make up all food and beverages can impact blood-level readings, clouding the results of
your test.

4.is it suitable for diagnosing hypoglycemia 4m

Not suitable because the to diagnose hypoglycemia, the test ned to be conducted for more thn2hrs for the result
to be accurate.

5.why we shud not take medication when performing this test 4m

Takinng medication before the test will distort the result.

Many drugs such as salicylates, diuretics and anticonvulsants decrease insulin secretion, and they should be
avoided for at least three days prior to  GTT, as well as all non-essential medications.

Some antibiotics have been shown to cause elevated blood sugar levels, particularly for those who already have
diabetes.   In general, antibiotics can change the microbiome of the gut, interfering with insulin sensitivity and
glucose delivery to the cells.

6.function of glucose test in ogtt 6m

Urine glucose test is to check for abnormally high levels of glucose in your urine and to detect diabetes. It can
also be used to monitor a diabetic person’s levels of urine glucose.

This test uses a dipstick which will change color depending on the amount of glucose in urine.Based on the
colour chart provided, we can determined the blood glucose level.A negative result may be the result of a
normal blood glucose level or a dangerously low blood glucose level while a positive result indicates a high
blood glucose level.

7.conclusion

The person being tested have a norml blood glucose level and is healthy because the level wtv falls back after
consuming glucose water
