Salvation
Justification | Sanctification | Glorification
Part 1

Salvation is simple.
The Devil has
complicated it.

"For I am not ashamed of the

gospel of Christ: for it is the
power of God unto salvation to
every one that believeth."

Romans 1:16

The study of doctrines and

prophecy is a fascinating
and productive area of
study, and should never
be neglected by one who
is trying to learn God's will
for his or her life.

We must not be guessing as to how this

salvation process works. We dare not take
someone's word for how it works, no matter
how influential or educated that person may
be. We absolutely must know for ourselves
what the Bible really teaches about salvation.

But underlying all of the

doctrines of the Bible is
the subject of how God
saves a sinner from guilt
and condemnation, and
prepares that sinner
for eternal.

“But though we, or an angel from

heaven, preach any other gospel
unto you than that which we have
preached unto you, let
him be accursed.”

Galatians 1:8

“For if he that cometh preacheth

another Jesus, whom we have not
preached, or if ye receive another
spirit, which ye have not received,
or another gospel … ”

2 Corinthians 11:4

What did Jesus

come to do?

“And thou shalt call his name

JESUS: for he shall save his
people FROM their sins.”

Matthew 1:21

If the diagnosis
of sin is correct,
then the gospel
remedy for sin
will solve the
problem.

SIN QUIZ
Definition A or Definition B?

12

6
10/28/20

Definition A
The state in which we are born
because of Adam's sin. Because of
Adam's sin, we are born sinners.

13

Definition B
When Adam sinned, something changed in
Adam's nature, which changed his nature from
a perfect, obedient nature to a distorted, self-
oriented nature. We all inherit this fallen nature
from Adam, which means that it is more
natural to do wrong than right.

Birth or Choice?

15

We have the curse--the inherent

results of sin--that human beings,
animals, and all nature experience
which leads to the first death. We also
have guilt, which only human beings
experience, and which leads to the
second death.

16

8
10/28/20

17

We must divide the basic idea of sin

into two separate parts--evil, and
guilt. Evil includes all the things which
inherently result from sin, which
includes suffering and death. Guilt
includes condemnation and the
second death.

18

9
10/28/20

When do we sin?

19

“Therefore to him that

knoweth to do good, and
doeth it not, to him it is sin.”

James 4:17

What was the

nature of man at
creation?

21

Genesis 1:26, 27

22

11

What does God

look like?

23

“He that loveth not

knoweth not God;
for God is love.”

25

What does God cover

Himself with?

26

13
10/28/20

Bless the LORD, O my soul.

O LORD my God, thou art
very great; thou art clothed
with honour and majesty.
Who coverest thyself with
light as with a garment: who
stretchest out the heavens
like a curtain:

Psalms 104:1 ,2

27

And he shall bring forth

thy righteousness as
the light, and thy
judgment as
the noonday.

Psalms 37:6

Light=Righteousness

29

“The white robe of innocence was worn

by our first parents when they
were placed by God in holy Eden. They
lived in perfect conformity to the will of
God. All the strength of their affections
was given to their heavenly Father.”
-Christ's Object Lessons, pp. 310, 311.

30

15
10/28/20

“A beautiful soft light, the light of God,

enshrouded the holy pair. This robe of
light was a symbol of their spiritual
garments of heavenly innocence. Had
they remained true to God it would ever
have continued to enshroud them.”
-Christ's Object Lessons, pp. 310, 311.

31

“But when sin entered, they severed their

connection with God, and the light that
had encircled them departed. Naked and
ashamed, they tried to supply the place of
the heavenly garments by sewing
together fig leaves for a covering.”
-Christ's Object Lessons, pp. 310, 311.

32

16
10/28/20

“Man was to bear God's image, both in

outward resemblance and in character.
Christ alone is 'the express image'
(Hebrews 1:3) of the Father; but man was
formed in the likeness of God. His nature
was in harmony with the will of God.”
-Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 45.

33

“His mind was capable of comprehending

divine things. His affections were pure; his
appetites and passions were under the
control of reason. He was holy and happy
in bearing the image of God and in perfect
obedience to His will.”
-Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 45.

34

17
10/28/20

“So long as all created beings

acknowledged the allegiance of love,
there was perfect harmony
throughout the universe of God. It was
the joy of the heavenly host to fulfill
the purpose of their Creator.”
-Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 35

35

“They delighted in reflecting His glory

and showing forth His praise. And
while love to God was supreme,
love for one another was confiding
and unselfish. There was no
note of discord to mar the
celestial harmonies...”

Genesis 4 – Two ways of

providing sacrifice.

Salvation by works
Salvation by faith

39

“Cain and Abel represent two classes that will exist

in the world till the close of time. One class avail
themselves of the appointed sacrifice for sin; the
other venture to depend upon their own merits;
theirs is a sacrifice without the virtue of divine
mediation, and thus it is not able to bring man into
favor with God. It is only through the merits of
Jesus that our transgressions can be pardoned.”

40

20
10/28/20

“Those who feel no need of the blood of Christ,

who feel that without divine grace they can by their
own works secure the approval of God, are making
the same mistake as did Cain. If they do not accept
the cleansing blood, they are under condemnation.
There is no other provision made whereby they can
be released from the thralldom of sin.”

41

“The class of worshipers who follow the example

of Cain includes by far the greater portion of the
world; for nearly every false religion has been
based on the same principle—that man can
depend upon his own efforts for salvation. It is
claimed by some that the human race is in need,
not of redemption, but of development—that it can
refine, elevate, and regenerate itself.”

42

21
10/28/20

“As Cain thought to secure the divine favor by an

offering that lacked the blood of a sacrifice, so do
these expect to exalt humanity to the divine
standard, independent of the atonement. The
history of Cain shows what must be the results. It
shows what man will become apart from Christ.
Humanity has no power to regenerate itself.”

43

“It does not tend upward, toward the divine, but

downward, toward the satanic. Christ is our only
hope. “There is none other name under heaven
given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
“Neither is there salvation in any other.” Acts 4:12.

P.P. 73.1

44

22
10/28/20

So how does Jesus

save us?

45

... The Spirit of God is pleading

with them to seek for those
things that alone can give peace
and rest-the grace of Christ, the
joy of holiness. Through
influences seen and unseen, our
Saviour is constantly at work to
attract the minds of men from
the unsatisfying pleasures of sin
to the infinite blessings that may
be theirs in Him.

46

23
10/28/20

To all these souls, who are vainly

seeking to drink from the broken
cisterns of this world, the divine
message is addressed, 'Let him
that is athirst come. And
whosoever will, let him take
the water of life freely.’
Revelation 22:17."

-Steps to Christ, p. 28

47

“The first step toward

salvation is to respond
to the drawing of the
love of Christ...”
-Selected Messages,
book 1, p. 323.

48

24
10/28/20

"And the times of this ignorance God

winked at; but now commandeth all
men everywhere to repent."

Acts 17:30
.

49

What is Justification?

50

25
10/28/20

"Even as David also describeth the

blessedness of the man, unto whom God
imputeth righteousness without works,
saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities
are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.
Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will
not impute sin."

Romans 4:6-8

51

This is the declarative aspect of

justification. To be justified is to be
pardoned, to be acquitted, to be counted
righteous. God declares me forgiven and
pardoned, without my performing any
works to earn my forgiveness.

52

26
10/28/20

"For if Abraham were justified by works,

he hath whereof to glory; but not before
God. For what saith the scripture?
Abraham believed God, and it was
counted unto him for righteousness."

Romans 4:2,3

53

Doing good works, even the best of

works, does not provide or earn
justification. Justification is a gift of God's
grace, undeserved and unearned. When
we believe in God's promises and accept
Christ's life and death for us, we are
counted righteous. We are justified or
declared to be righteous.
