Project Narrative-1

This document outlines a 5-day project on financial sustainability. Each day focuses on different standards and learning objectives, including creating a personal budget, explaining how careers impact income, and reflecting on personal spending habits. Students will engage in discussions, videos, and activities each day. They will track their work in an online portfolio, answering questions and adding materials as they progress through the project. The goal is for students to understand how to achieve long-term financial stability.

Sustaining The Project and Innovation

Technology

The only required technology in this project is a device to keep an online portfolio. This

can range from the cell phone they use to their school computer. Most schools right now have

school laptops or iPads, so they will be able use their school computer for the duration of the

project to upkeep with the online portfolio. The limited technology in this project helps equitable

situations as everyone in most high schools provide a school laptop as well. My role in the

technology part of the classroom is to use proximity to make sure the students remain on task

and facilitate the project to see it to its eventual success!

After Proposal Period

After the proposal period of the project with my students, they can eventually implement

their plan to be financially sustainable in their own lives. With these tools they learned, they have

what it takes to be smart with their money and should be prepared for the eventual financial

obstacles. I would encourage community members and others to also implement this project with

people they see struggle financially to see improvements for them.

Innovation

This project allows students to take control of their learning in an exciting format where

they drive their learning based off their personal preferences. Everything in this project deals

with student interests and is very relevant to them. Thus, making the project that much more

engaging and the content they learned each day that much richer. As each day allows a form of

reflection, their ideas of what it means to be financially sustainable constantly changes with each

new concept introduced. Throughout this process, students will encounter questions and

formulate answers that combat financial hardships and with this knowledge, they enable

themselves to become their own financial experts. This overall brings a whole new learning and

transforms the class of personal finance into something more personable. This project would

transform my teaching into a more student-driven one as my life is not the center of this project

—its theirs.
