This message is intended for informational purposes. Any individual directly affected will be contacted
by Jefferson County Public Health during the contact tracing process.

On 11/24/20, the South Jefferson Central School District received confirmation from Jefferson County Public
Health that a student who attends Wilson and was in school today has tested positive for COVID-19. The
student does not ride District transportation.

We are working closely with Jefferson County Public Health and collaboratively supporting the contact tracing
process. This process identifies anyone who comes into close contact with an individual who has COVID-19.
If you are contacted by Jefferson County Public Health, please follow their guidance and recommendations.

Jefferson County Public Health will communicate with any students or staff found to be in close contact with a
positive case.

The District plan was developed to address positive cases. Masking and social distance protocols/policies
remain in place. The District will continue to follow policies and procedures, including cleaning and disinfecting
procedures, to ensure the health and safety of the students and employees.

As much as the District is attempting to be completely transparent in this matter, we are faced with the
competing privacy rights of our students and staff. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
(HIPAA) and other privacy laws restrict us from disclosing or confirming any potential personally identifiable
information. The District is not allowed to release additional information. Thank you in advance for your
understanding.

Once again, if you or your family has been directly impacted, you will be contacted by Public Health.

The health and safety of our students, staff, and the surrounding community remains one of our top priorities at
this time. We thank you for your understanding and continued support. Have a safe Thanksgiving.

Sincerely,

SB State
