"Rollap" Rare-Earth Roll-Type High Intensity Magnetic Separator

ELEKTROMAG has entered a technical collaboration with FCB France to manufacture the "Rollap", a rare-earth permanent magnetic dry high intensity magnetic separator. The Rollap uses either a belt or brush system to separate paramagnetic from non-magnetic particles using a powerful rare earth magnetic roll. It can process particles from 40 micrometers to 75 millimeters in size and its modular design allows multiple separation stages to be stacked. ELEKTROMAG offers free preliminary testing of customer samples on its laboratory Rollap models.

INTRODUCTION

ELEKTROMAG has been a leading manufacturer of industrial magnetic and vibrating


equipment in India since 1958.

FCB is one of the leading and most diversified industrial companies in France. It is a member
of the highly reputed Fives-Lille Group which had and annual turnover of over 6 billion French
Francs in 1991.

ELEKTROMAG has been manufacturing and marketing a wide range of dry high intensity
electro-magnetic separators such as induced roll type, cross-belt type over the last 25 years.
Most of these products are still working satisfactorily at numerous customer installations all
over the country.

ELEKTROMAG has now entered into technical collaboration with FCB, France to
manufacture the latest state-of-the art rare-earth permanent magnetic dry high intensity
magnetic separators know as " Rollap".

"ROLLAP" PRINCIPLE

Belt Type

The key components of the belt type "Rollap" rare earth roll separators are a
powerful rare earth magnetic roll which also functions as a head pulley and a thin,
high-strength, abrasion resistant conveyor belt.

The product to be treated is fed to the conveyor belt by an "Elektromag-AEG"


electromagnetic vibrating feeder in which the feed rate can be steplessly controlled
from 0 to 100% of capacity. As the product on the belt passes over the rare-earth
magnetic roll, para-magnetic particles adhere to the belt while the non-magnetic
particles fall freely off the belt into the non-magnetic chute due to centrifugal
force. The retained paramagnetic particles then travel to the return side of the belt
where they are discharged into the middlings/ magnetic chute depending upon their
magnetic susceptibility. Adjustable splitters are provided to ensure an optimum
magnetic /non-magnetic split. Roll speed is variable and can be adjusted from 40
RPM to 400 RPM thereby enabling the aid of centrifugal force in separation of the
magnetics and non-magnetics.

Two standard roll widths are available: 200 mm for laboratory test work and 1000mm for
industrial applications, equipment capacity depends on material characteristics and will be
determined by test work.

Belts of varying width, thickness and material are available and the most suitable belt will be
selected depending on customers application.

Brush Type

The key components of the brush type "Rollap" rare earth roll separator are an
adjustable flow electromagnetic vibrating feeder which feeds directly, or through a
tiltable chute and a rare earth based magnet roll. The speed of the feed material is
equal to the peripheral speed of the roll.

The non-magnetic fractions are ejected off the roll surface under the combined
effect of centrifugal force and gravity.

The magnetic particles which adhere to the roll are recovered back by a rotary
brush revolving in the same direction as the roll.

The rotor is equipped with a continuously variable speed drive system which
permits to optimise the treatment according to the magnetic susceptibilities and the
particle size of the products.

TECHNICAL FEATURES

z Belt type version or brush type version (for materials free from any ferromagnetic elements)

z Rotor driven by variable speed gear motor.

z Modular design allowing to superpose several separation stages, with belt or brush.
z Optional: Low-intensity presorting with ferrite rotor.
z Rotor diameter: 76 and 102 mm depending on the product to be processed and flow rate.

APPLICATIONS

Abrasives, bauxite upgrading, beach sands, ceramic raw materials, chromite ores, coal,
diamond ores, glass sands, graphite, iron ore, manganese ores, PET plastics, quartz, refractory,
silica minerals and several other applications.

TEST FACILITY

ELEKTROMAG offers FREE preliminary test work on customers samples on its laboratory
models of both Belt and Brush Type ROLLAP available at its factory in Bombay. Customers
are requested to send 5-10 Kgs. of samples for each type mineral to be tested.

Note : If the mineral to be processed contains highly magnetic (ferromagnetic) particles, it


would be advisable to initially process it through a low intensity magnetic drum type / or chute
type separators.

ELEKTROMAG also offers other rare earth magnetic products such as rare earth plate
magnets, rods, grids, drums etc. as well as wide range of Dry & Wet low intensity magnetic
separators.
