This document presents a research proposal for studying Moringa oleifera (malunggay) leaves as an anti-dandruff shampoo for dogs. The study aims to develop a cheaper herbal anti-dandruff shampoo without harsh chemicals that could harm dogs. Moringa leaves will be extracted through decoction and used as the main ingredient in the shampoo. Various instruments will be used to gather information and test the shampoo on 30 respondents. The study expects to find no significant differences between the experimental shampoo and commercial products in terms of effectiveness, duration, and acceptability.

ABSTRACT

A follow-up study regarding the study entitled “Moringa oleifera” (Malunggay)

leaves as Anti-Dandruff Shampoo was conducted to know the effects of the product to

other level of being which is the dog. The follow-up study was the entitled “Moringa

oleifera” (Malunggay) leaves as Anti-Dandruff Shampoo for Dogs.

Shampoo is a common hair care product used for removal of oils, dirt, skin

particles, environmental pollutants, and other contaminant particle that are gradually

build-up in hair. In addition, shampoo is used as sanitary product for hair and scalp. The

goal of shampoo is to remove the unwanted build-up without stripping out so much to

make hair unmanageable.

The product of this research aims to develop the said characteristics of the

herbal anti-dandruff shampoo, which do not have too much chemicals that may harm

your scalp and that this research aims to develop cheaper anti-dandruff shampoo.

In addition, the researcher used Moringa oleifera or Malunggay leaves as raw

material. These leaves undergone the process of decoction where the leaves were

extracted so that the extract will be the one to use as the main ingredient n making the

anti-dandruff shampoo.

She used various kinds of instruments to gather the needed information that may

give her the sufficient results, the thirty respondents and the DOST.

There is no significant difference between the commercially used and the

experimental ones in terms of color, odor, and viscosity. After computing the t-com, the
v

researcher concluded that there is no significant difference between the commercial

ones and the experimental ones in terms of effectiveness and length of time as perceived

by the respondents.

The results were as follow:

The sample, “shampoo – A and B” produced complete inhibitory activity and severe

reactivity against Microsporum canis. Sample-free disc, which served as control gave

negative activity and no reactivity against said organism.

Since t-com of 1.38 is less than the t-tab of 2.555 at the degrees of freedom of 22 at

.05 level of significance.: Ho is accepted.

Since t-com of -.7936 is less than the t-tab of 2.0555 at the degrees of freedom of 22

at .05 level of significance.: Ho is accepted.

The researcher therefore concluded that: there is no significant difference between

the “Moringa oleifera” anti-dandruff shampoo and the commercially used anti-dandruff

shampoo in terms of effectiveness and length of time.

Also that there is no significant difference between the commercially used anti-

dandruff shampoo and the experimental ones which is the “Moringa oleifera” anti-

dandruff shampoo for Dogs in any aspect.

As perceived by the results, she got the following recommendations: Viscosity

of the solution should be improved as perceived by the respondents.75%-25% solution

should be used as perceived by the laboratory test results, where as, 75% is the solution

or extract and 25% is water.
