1.0 GENERAL
1.1 Scope
This specification covers the minimum requirements for the design, supply of all material,
fabrication and construction of all above-ground pipe supports for the NC-115 field
development project. The concession currently comprises three oilfields designated
A-115, B-115 and H-115.
"Inspector"-shall mean any person, company or body appointed by the Operator to exercise the
functions entrusted to him under the Purchase Agreement and notified by the Operator to
the Vendor.

- maximum basic wind speed
for design purposes - 90 mph
- altitude - 1640 ft.
The units will be installed approximately 490 miles (780 km) south of Tripoli, and they will be
subject to a hostile desert environment. The units shall be entirely suitable for continuous
operation in this environment.
All documents, drawings and labels shall be marked in the English language.
The applicable sections of the codes and standards and specifications listed below (including
revisions, addenda and other documents incorporated by reference) shall be considered an
integral part of this specification. These standards shall be in their latest revised form at
the time of writing. Where two or more references define requirements for the same
subject, the more restrictive reference shall govern.

2.0 SCOPE OF SUPPLY/SCOPE OF WORK
2.1Design
(a)All pipe supports shall be in accordance with all the requirements indicated on the standard
pipe supports contained in this specification together with the latest requirements stated in
ASME 31.3 Code for Refinery Piping, and MSS SP-58.
(b)All piping shall be adequately supported, anchored, and guided to prevent/ control excessive
deflection and vibration, and to ensure that the piping, together with the connected
equipment, is not subjected to excessive stresses and loadings. To this end the design will
embody generally accepted good engineering practice, where standard stock and/or
production parts are utilized wherever possible.
(c)Each support will be designed to withstand all possible sustained loading conditions, as well as
loadings due to friction effects, slugging, thermal expansion, etc. They shall allow free
expansion/contraction of the piping systems, when required, and should not allow any
transfer of loadings/ displacements which could be detrimental to the piping system as a
whole.
Spring supports will be designed to cater for the NORMAL OPERATING conditions, with a
`back-up' check to establish the effects of any upset conditions.
(d)Pipe supports adjacent to pumps shall be designed to carry all the piping and valve loads, such
that the loadings and deflections transmitted to the nozzle approach zero, allowing the
pump to be removed for repair.

(e)In special situations, where a standard pipe support cannot be accommodated, supports will be
catered for on a `special support sketch'.
(f)All lines NPS 2" and below will be supported on site, and will be the responsibility of the field
personnel. In special instances, anchors, guides, and support comments may be added
during the design phase, but the method of their institution remains under the
responsibility of the field personnel.
(g)All threads for bolts, nuts, and threaded rod are to be right-hand UNC unless otherwise stated.
(h)Pipe supports will NOT BE hot dipped galvanised and shall have a paint finish complying
with operators specification Number 02/54/001 - "Surface preparation painting and
galvanising specification".
(i)All trunnions and reinforcing plates shall be detailed on the piping isometrics and shall be
supplied as part of the piping MTO, and shall be of the same material as the parent pipe
unless specified otherwise on drawings and for specifications, and other official
controlling authorities.
(j)All rigid hangers shall be provided with a means of vertical adjustment after installation, and
shall be subjected to tensile loading only.
Where hangers are located such that horizontal movement will occur, they must be provided with
suitable linkage to permit this movement without hindering their effectiveness.
(k)Wherever practical, all riser piping shall be supported independently of the horizontal piping
to which it is connected.

7
(l)Supports, guides, and anchors shall be designed such that excessive heat cannot be transmitted
to the building steel, with the temperature of the supporting steel being based upon a
temperature gradient of 100oF per inch of distance from the outside of the supported pipe.
(a)All pipe supports, unless clearly stated otherwise, shall be fabricated from carbon steel having
a minimum allowable stress of 12500 lbs/ins2 at 650oF.
(b)Unless clearly stated otherwise, all bolts and nuts shall be of normal construction quality.
(a)The pipe support fabricator shall make only the welds required to fabricate the pipe support
prior to installation, and shall not make any welds which are designed as field welds,
unless specifically permitted.
(b)Unless stated otherwise, all welding shall be ¼ inch fillet performed by electric arc.
(d)All pipe supports shall be clearly tagged with the same identifying number indicated on the
pipe support location drawing.
2.4Field Instructions
(a)All preset spring supports, of any type, shall be provided with lockplates designed to maintain
the correct dimensions during installation.
(b)During hydrotesting, the preset lockplates shall be left in position, and shall be only be
removed after all hydrotesting has been successfully completed, and MUST be removed
prior to any line being put into service.
(c)In some instances, temporary rigid supports or blocks must be installed to protect any spring
assembly, pipe, hanger, structure, etc, which would suffer, or cause to be suffered, any
damage due to hydrostatic testing of the piping system.
The hydrotest load shall be clearly stated on all relevant data sheets.
(d)The bearing surfaces of all sliding supports shall be brushed or blown clean after assembly,
after which they will be liberally coated with graphite grease.
