Titanic was a hugely successful film that made $1.8 billion and won 11 Academy Awards including Best Picture. It told the fictional love story of Rose, a rich girl, and Jack, a poor passenger who meet on the sinking Titanic. 3. While the love story is fictional, some of the people portrayed in the film like Margaret Brown who tried to save passengers, were real historical figures. The director James Cameron later had great success with the film Avatar.
