Part I: Question 1: (25 marks) Word Limit: Do not exceed

Using bank level annual data of all the commercial banks (includ-
ing the non-bank nancial institutions if they assume deposit and
lending operation) in one of the PICs (where data can be easily ob-
tained) for the years 2010 and 2019, calculate the following indexes:
a) CR2 and CR4 based on total loans and total assets 2010 and 2019
(10 marks)
b) HHI based on total loans and total assets for 2010 and 2019 (10
marks)
c) Interpret the results in a) and b). (5 marks)

Part II Question 2: (75 marks) Word Limit: Do not exceed


3000 words
Focusing on any one of developing PICs, compile annual data on
the following variables:
⇒ Domestic credit to private sectors (%GDP)
⇒ GDP per capita (Constant US$)
⇒ Trade (% GDP)
⇒ Gross xed capital formation (%GDP)
⇒ Consumer Price Index (%)
⇒ Real Eective Exchange Rate (REER)
⇒ Personal Remittances (%GDP)
⇒ Ocial Development Assistance (%GNI)
⇒ Global Financial Crisis (dummy) for 2007-2008 period

you are required to compile data on these variables for as many years
that are available from the World Development Indicators database,
and carry out the following:
a) Plot the trends of each of the variables (5 marks)
b) Compute and tabulate the descriptive statistics (5 marks)
c) Compute and tabulate correlation coecients among variables (5
marks)
d) Specify three separate models with each having the dependent
variable as:
⇒ Model 1: log of domestic Credit to private sector (%GDP)
(others can be the independent variables)
⇒ Model 2: log of GDP per capita (others can be the
independent variables)
⇒ Model 3: log of Gross xed capital formation (%GDP)
(others can be the independent variables)
e) Perform multiple linear regressions for each model specication
using Excel, and tabulate the results. (20 marks)
f) Using the results from a-e, provide a write-up of your paper. (40
marks)
Note : include parts (a) to (e) as part of the paper and not
separately. Your paper should follow the basic structure:

3. You are allowed to submit TWO les only. One is the
main write-up le in MSWord or PDF which should
contain solutions to Part I and Part II, and the other
is an excel le which should contain all data, graphs,
tables etc. used in the write-up, for both Part I and
Part II.
4. Failure to submit either of the les will result in loss
of marks.
5. Ensure that all members name and ID must be cor-
rectly specied
6. Only one submission per group is required . Please do
not make multiple submission.
7. Submit your assignment through Moodle
