Personal Development Plan (PDP) is identified as a method that help teachers to determine what they are going to do for
their students. According to Katie Martinelli(2017) “A Professional Development Plan (PDP), also known as an Employee
Development Plan or an Individual Development Plan, is used to document career goals and set out a strategy on how to
meet them” (Martinelli, 2020). Writing your PDP might take a long time, but it will help the teacher in many different ways.
PDP is considered an essential tool for some reasons. It achieves teacher goals, identifies and develop her professional
skills, keeps her on the track of success, and learning opportunity for growth. Furthermore, PDP plays an important role in
organizing the area of development of teaching that was found and needs to develop after an evaluation. The teacher can
edit and review her PDP over and overtime in career, the work is something that builds on itself as you continue to grow
professionally. (SCIVICQUE, n.d) As I am a student’s teacher, I should create my own PDP and review them over and
over time, this will help me to develop my teaching skills professionally.
Justify your professional development goals for this semester.
I will write my PDP to help me improve my skills and reach my goals. I will write my 5 goals. Firstly, time management, I
will be using some tools to help manage the time in the classroom such as a timer. If I don’t manage time, then I won’t be
able to deliver all that I have in my plan, I will struggle, and students will be confused. Students will be late, as
consequence, at the end of the term, I will hurry which can affect negatively me and my students. Secondly, Use hands-on
activity instead of a worksheet. I will be using hands-on activities such as cards and printed pictures to help engage students
in learning. Using a worksheet for primary students is such boring activity, there should be some interactive activity like
using concrete objects to let students engage and be effective and develop their interaction in the classroom. Thirdly,
motivating students by using some positive reinforcement, like ClassDojo and star of the week. Using positive
reinforcement, a great way to manage student’s behavior and encourage them to work effectively in the classroom. This is
links to Skinner's theory, by implementing some positive reinforcement, the current behaviors will improve. Based on my
experience, when I have had to implement some positive reinforcement such as a gift or points, students were well behaved
and follow the classroom rules. Fourthly, practice the words and pronunciation ahead of time, before the lesson I should
have enough practice for all the vocabulary. If I pronounce the words incorrectly, Students are going to spell the way I spell
which can cause a lack of student’s pronunciation. Furthermore, some might correct the way I spell the word, which is an
unnormal situation, teacher should stand strong and never show them that you are wrong or provide incorrect information.
Fifthly, using online game to teach vocabulary. Using vocabulary is the basic of the language, if students learn vocabulary
in interactive way, they will be able to gain the words. As a teacher, it’s very important to search for the appropriate online
website to teach vocabulary so students can have a good understanding of the word. This is linked to my action research, my
action research is about using an online teaching strategy to teach English vocabulary for grade 3, and in this goal, I am
developing the use of online game to teach vocabulary.
My research topic:
The primary purpose of this research is to explore online English strategies and its impact on vocabulary
development in the Grade 3 classroom.
RQ1: What are some strategies that can be used to develop vocabulary for 3rd Grade learner?
RQ2: What is the most effective strategy that have a huge impact on students' development?
