Today was my first day of student teaching. During ELA, the teacher emphasized the importance
of using the CUPS strategy in order for students to check their work. CUPS standards for
capitalization, usage, punctuation, and spelling. This is a new strategy that I would like to
implement in my classroom. I think it is a great way to make sure students understand how to
review their writing. During the session, I noticed that Sarah is an active participator.
During social studies, the students focused on various landmarks in Philadelphia. I like how the
teacher gave the students the opportunity to draw one of the landmarks after reviewing a video
on them. This was a great way to reinforce these landmarks.
During math, the students examined the relationship between addition and multiplication. Due to
the lack of students in the afternoon, the teacher did not teach much of the prepared lesson.

In the morning, the students corrected a short paragraph using the CUPS strategy. During ELA,
the students listened to a book titled The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies. They discussed
several different comprehension questions using Jamboard. It was evident that Kaylee had a
strong understanding of the book.
During social studies, the students took a virtual field trip around the world on Nearpod. They
learned about several places/landmarks, such as New York City, the Golden Gate Bridge, and
Mount Rushmore. In order for them to participate, the students wrote down what they observed
and any questions they had about the trip.
At the beginning of math, the students participated in a minute math exercise. Then, they
completed two problems involving multiplication. I really liked how one of the problems asked
the students to use a number line in order to skip count by 3’s. Overall, the students have not
spent a lot of time working on math. I am looking forward to seeing more math instruction in the
future.

Today was a half day. The students spent their day completing several different tests/quizzes.
The first test was in ELA on Nearpod. After, the students completed four word problems
involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Lastly, the students were asked to
solve as many addition problems as they could in one minute. Overall, the day did not involve
much instruction.
Week 11
11/16/20
In the morning, the students completed their daily CUPS activity. In specific, they had to write a
story about being homesick using at least three different vocabulary words. The students
completed this task in a breakout room. Then, the students shared their story in their small group,
as well as with the entire class. After, the students completed a Naviance lesson about what
makes them unique.
In the afternoon, I helped students complete the Naviance assignment. After, the students
completed a multiplication question as a class. Then, they went into breakout rooms in order to
solve five multiplication word problems. It still seems like the students are having trouble with
this concept.
11/17/20
In the morning, the students reviewed important vocabulary words they have been learning.
After, they moved into learning about inferences. The students examined an image in order to
make inferences and then moved into inferring various sentences. It seems like the students have
a good understanding of inferences.
After expressive arts, the students were sent to breakout rooms in order to reread Blast Off! Mae
Jemison Goes Into Space. Then, they had to answer the corresponding questions.
In the afternoon, the students completed their math lesson on multiplication. First, the students
solved several multiplication facts in the question and answer chat. Then, they solved a
multiplication word problem as a whole class. After, they worked in their small groups in order
to answer various multiplication problems. Overall, I think the students are starting to grasp the
concept better.
11/18/20
In the morning, the students matched several vocabulary words to their correct definition. Then,
they took the Anet reading test. Since I have class on Wednesday, this is all I got to participate
in.
11/19/20
In the morning, the students completed several review problems for math in their breakout room.
Then, they took the Anet math test. At the end of the day, I played Jeopardy with the students.
Overall, testing gave me the opportunity to speak with several students about their interests and
have some fun when they were finished.
11/20/20
In the morning, the students participated in a Nearpod multiplication review game. Then, they
were sent to breakout rooms in order to finish up testing and other work they have not finished.
The rooms consisted of Anet reading, Anet math, Naviance, and Google classroom.
Week 12
11/23/20
In the morning, the students completed their daily CUPS activity. There was little participation.
It may have been because the students have not worked on correcting a paragraph in several
weeks. After, I taught a vocabulary lesson. I started by asking the students to log into Nearpod in
order to participate in the collaborate board. After, I played the story Going Green Every Day so
the students could listen to it. Then, I read the story and explained the first 5 vocabulary words.
Lastly, the students completed a short activity on Nearpod where they had to either draw a
picture of 1 vocabulary word or write a sentence using 1 vocabulary word and share it with the
class. Overall, I think the lesson went pretty well. After lunch, the students spent time working in
their Google classroom.
11/24/20
In the morning, the students completed their daily CUPS activity. It seemed like they were able
to come up with most of the answers more quickly today. After, I taught a vocabulary lesson
similar to the one we completed yesterday. I asked the students to return back to the collaborate
board we were working on and add any additional information they have learned about how to
go green and save the Earth. Then, we listened to the story and reread the second half in order to
go over five new vocabulary words. After, the students completed the same activity in Nearpod
as yesterday, but they were asked to use the five words they learned today. Once the students
were finished, they had the opportunity to share their screen to show the work they came up
with. In order to conclude the lesson, I showed the students a video of me playing softball and
asked them to write the word that makes the most sense to match with the video, which was
active. I was so happy to see that all of the students typed the correct vocabulary word in the
chat. Overall, I was satisfied with my lesson. I do think it would have gone more smoothly if the
students were a little more cooperative.
After lunch, the students worked in their Google classroom. In order to close out the day, the
students participated in a multiplication game on Kahoot! The students love playing games as a
class.
11/25/20
In the morning, the students completed their daily CUPS activity. The students had difficulty
completing it today. I think it was partially due to their lack of focus. After, I taught a vocabulary
lesson. We discussed the meaning of a synonym and antonym to introduce the lesson. Then, the
students listened to a song about synonyms and antonyms. I am not sure if this was the best
video to show the students. In the future, I would like to find one with more interaction and at the
third grade level. After, the students were placed into breakout rooms to complete several
vocabulary pages. In specific, the students were asked to focus on finding the correct synonym
and antonym and completing the sentence with the vocabulary word that best fits. My small
group did a great job with these activities. Lastly, the students participated in a Kahoot! game to
test their knowledge. In the future, I would like to find new games for the students to play.
Overall, I think the students were able to gain a better understanding of the unit 3 vocabulary
words.
After lunch, the students watched a Thanksgiving video and participated in a word search with
different words related to the holiday.
