The document discusses principles and theories of language acquisition and learning. It defines a principle as a general belief that guides behavior and is a fundamental truth, while a theory is a system of ideas intended to explain something based on general principles. The key difference is that principles must be followed based on their nature or design, whereas theories are contemplative frameworks that can be tested. The importance of understanding language principles is that they provide guidance for teaching methods. A theory can be formulated when it consists of entirely true statements about a subject and is logically grounded in confirmed evidence and facts.

PRINCIPLE AND THEORIES OF LANGUAGE AQUIS. & LEARNING
1. What is principle?
 A principle is a general belief that you have about the way you should
behave, which influence your behavior.
 A fundamental truth or proposition that serves as the foundation for
a system of belief or behavior or for a chain of reasoning.
 A principle is a proposition or value that is a guide for behavior or
evaluation. In law, it is a rule that has to be or usually is to be
followed, or can be desirably followed, or is an inevitable
consequence of something, such as the laws observed in nature or
the way that a system is constructed.
 a set of principles on which the practice of an activity is based.
2. What is theory?
 A supposition or a system of ideas intended to explain something,
especially one based on general principles independent of the thing to
be explained.
 A theory not only explains known facts; it also allows scientists to
make predictions of what they should observe if a theory is true.
Scientific theories are testable. New evidence should be compatible
with a theory. If it isn't, the theory is refined or rejected. The longer
the central elements of a theory hold--the more observations it
predicts, the more tests it passes, the more facts it explains--the
stronger the theory.

3. What is the difference between theory and principle?

The main difference between Principle and Theory is that the Principle is a
rule that has to be followed or is an inevitable consequence of something,
such as the laws observed in nature . Theory is a contemplative and rational
type of abstract or generalizing thinking, or the results of such thinking.
Principle is a concept or value that is a guide for behavior or evaluation. In
law, it is a rule that has to be, or usually is to be followed, or can be
desirably followed, or is an inevitable consequence of something, such as
the laws observed in nature or the way that a system is constructed. The
principles of such a system are understood by its users as the essential
characteristics of the system, or reflecting system's designed purpose, and
the effective operation or use of which would be impossible if any one of
the principles was to be ignored. A theory is a contemplative and rational
type of abstract or generalizing thinking, or the results of such thinking.
Depending on the context, the results might, for example, include
generalized explanations of how nature works. The word has its roots in
ancient Greek, but in modern use it has taken on several related meanings.
Theories guide the enterprise of finding facts rather than of reaching goals,
and are neutral concerning alternatives among values. A theory can be a
body of knowledge, which may or may not be associated with particular
explanatory models. To theorize is to develop this body of knowledge. As
already in Aristotle's definitions, theory is very often contrasted to
"practice" (from Greek praxis, πρᾶξις) a Greek term for doing, which is
opposed to theory because pure theory involves no doing apart from itself.

4. What is the importance of knowing the principle of language?

 In developing a set of principles to guide the course of teaching, it is first

necessary to understand the meaning of principle. The term principle has
been adopted from the Latin word principles, which means the beginning
or the end of all things.
 The early Greeks used the term principles not only to express the origin of
things but also to express their fundamental laws, and to put out their
ultimate objectives.Sometimes the sources or causes from which things
proceed, as for instance the visible universe, are called principles, so also
are the characteristics of things, or whatever determine their nature.
5. When can theory be formulated?

 Theory is constructed of a set of sentences that are entirely true

statements about the subject under consideration. However, the truth
of any one of these statements is always relative to the whole theory.
Therefore, the same statement may be true with respect to one theory,
and not true with respect to another.
 A scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of
the natural world, based on a body of facts that have been repeatedly
confirmed through observation and experiment. ... So the key aspect
of theory formulation is the logical grounding of the thesis in
established evidence.
