CAUTION
CAUTION
Responsible organization
The responsible organisation is responsible for the implementation of the requirements
laid down in DIN EN 1717 for the establishment of a suitable transfer point between the
drinking water supply and the components of the water pre-treatment.
During installation, observe the OEM instructions for the main control valve WS1 CI,
WS1.25 CI and WS1.5 CI.
Only carry out work specified in these instructions.
Do not alter or modify the system.
Always unplug the power plug before working on the valve.

6 | Warranty and liability
Warranty and liability claims for personal injury and property damage are excluded for one or more of the following
causes:
• Improper system use.
• Improper system assembly, commissioning, operation and maintenance.
• Operating the system with defective safety equipment or incorrectly installed or inoperable safety devices and
guards.
• Failure to observe the information in the operating instructions (regarding; transportation, storage, assembly,
commissioning, operation, maintenance and equipping) of the system.
• Unauthorised structural changes to the system.
• Improper monitoring of system parts subject to wear.
• Improper repairs.
• Emergencies due to foreign objects and force majeure.
The activated carbon filtration systems CWG AK CI 1" / CWG AK CI 1.25" / CWG AK CI 1.5" are fully automatic
filtration systems used to remove chlorine or organic contaminants such as humic matters and other substances
such as halogenated hydrocarbons and pesticides from drinking and well water.
6. Intended use
• The CWG AK CI 1" / CWG AK CI 1.25" / CWG AK CI 1.5" activated carbon filtration system may only be used to
remove chlorine and organic contaminants from drinking and well water.
• Any other use of the CWG AK CI 1" /
CWG AK CI 1.25" / CWG AK CI 1.5" activated carbon filtration system is considered improper use.
• The limits in the technical data apply, pressure, temperature, and flow rate.
• Intended use also includes observing all information in the operating instructions and complying with the
inspection and service schedule.
• Improper use means use of the system as:
o Storage tank (after removing the filter material)
o Pressure reservoir (water or air)
• Do not modify, install add-ons or convert the system without the written approval of the manufacturer / supplier.
• Immediately replace any parts which are not in excellent condition. Only use original spare parts.
• CWG Watertechnology GmbH assumes no liability for damages due to failure to observe this notice. The user is
solely liable for the risk.
• The operating instructions must be observed to ensure proper operation and warranty claims.
• Therefore, first use the operating instructions before working on the activated carbon filtration system!

8 | Device description
7. Device description
The CWG AK CI 1" / CWG AK CI 1.25" / CWG AK CI 1.5" activated carbon filtration system consist of a non-
corrosive GRP pressure tank filled with a high-quality activated carbon. An electronic control valve CLACK WS 1 CI /
WS 1.25 CI / WS 1.5 CI is installed on top of the GRP pressure tank, which automatically starts backwashing on
schedule (programmed).

CAUTION
The fused electrical connection must be installed within range of the mains connection.
Never interrupt the electrical connection.
NOTE
The installation site must be level and clean.
The installation room must be frost-free and sufficiently ventilated.
The temperature in the installation room must not exceed 43 °C.
The wastewater connection on site must be a free outlet per DIN EN 1717 with the
recommended usable cross-section (recommended NW 70).
The water system must be located near the wastewater connection.
The untreated water must have a minimum pressure of 2 bar.
The untreated water pressure must not exceed 6 bar.
NOTE
Unload the shock-sensitive pressure tanks with care.
Lift the pressure tanks during transport.
Never roll pressure tanks!!
Assemble the parts as shown in the drawing in the instructions and screw the two pieces including swivel nut onto
the inlet and outlet of the 90° vertical adapters. Tighten the swivel nuts by hand. These are sealed with O-rings and
do not require tightening with pliers. The complete assembly will not be rigid once tightened, but can be moved.

Riser
NOTE
Important when filling!
Particularly ensure during filling that material does not enter the riser.
Even one particle can adversely affect the correct function of the activated carbon filter.
6. Place the main control valve on the pressure tank thread and first screw on anti-clockwise to determine the turn
of the thread. Then tighten the control valve clockwise until the O-Ring is no longer visible.
7. Connect the inlet, discharge, and wastewater lines.
NOTE
The activated carbon must soak in the water for 24 hours before commissioning further
so the pores in the activated carbon are fully wetted and the enclosed air can escape
completely from the activated carbon particles.
Never start backwashing before these 24 hours have passed!!!!!!
NOTE
CAUTION
Risk of leaks.
Due to the heavy weight of filter media and water, moving the pressure tank can harm
the pressure tank foot and warm the piping.
Do not move the pressure tank!
NOTE
Programming the activated carbon filtration system:
The main control valve settings are factory programmed.
The date for the first backwashing must be configured or selected during commissioning
(by triggering manual backwashing), since the interval between backwashes is fixed.
NOTE
Changing the factory presets of the control valve may result in malfunctions or even
complete system failure. Please contact your dealer for advice if you intend to make
changes.
As a precaution, please note the water treatment system must be connected in
compliance with local installation regulations, general guidelines (e.g. water distribution
companies, public utilities, VDE, DIN, DVGW, or ÖVGW or SVGW). Therefore, a safety
device hazard class 2 is required, and the installation site should also have a floor drain.

18 | Programming the main control valve
The display will now return to the top level and show the time.
This completes the programming.
At the top level of the display you can now press the NEXT key for 2 queries:
• Time
• Number of days until next backwash
The filter material must be flushed by backwashing to flush out dust particles from handling and transporting the
activated carbon. This is done by running two manual backwashes.
Proceed as follows:
STEP 1
Press the REGEN key until you hear the motor sound in the control valve.
After a few seconds, the bottom of the display will read BACKWASH with a countdown above it (5 minutes for
backwash). You will hear water rushing in the system.
When the backwash reaches the countdown, the valve will make motor sounds and switch over, and the display will
read RINSE and another countdown (10 minutes).
At the end of the second countdown the display will show the time again.
STEP 2
Repeat the steps under step 1 (second backwash).
The system has now been flushed and is ready to supply chlorine-free water.

20 | Power outages
In the event of a power outage, the system will remember the time (continue running) but the display will flash. This
alerts the user to the power outage. Frequent power outages shorten the battery life and it will need to be replaced
sooner.
The main control valve of the activated carbon filtration system must be serviced every 24 months. Contaminants
(particles) in untreated water can cause deposits inside the control valve and the slits of the upper distributor nozzle,
which can result in clogs and malfunctions in the medium term. Service includes cleaning the control valve, replacing
the upper basket, and, if necessary, the piston seal cage.
