What is Self-Reflection?
Self-Reflection is when you take time to reflect on things that you have done and how
you can do it better? Self- Reflection in teaching is reflecting what you are teaching the students
and how you can be better in what you are doing. For instance, you can record yourself on
teaching a lesson and see some errors and how you can make it better so that your students can
get a better understanding, but also remembering you did the best you can as well because you
can be your worst critic. Some ways that you can teach your students self-reflection is to maybe
explain it to them first and get them to talk about themselves with you. Then gradually slide it in
and show them examples and let them self-reflect on themselves. Children may not understand
how important it is to self-reflect but it is our jobs to teach them so they can see where they can
better themselves and find ways to do things differently. We don't want them to be too hard on
themselves either, we just want them to be able to better themselves in certain areas. In order to
set certain goals you have to have self reflection, because that can help to set the goals. For
instance, I have been on my job for 3 years as a paraprofessional and have not moved up and
hadn’t had a big salary change. I went to the principal with my credentials because I know I have
a lot of credentials. I was told I didn't have a LBS1 so I said ok, even though I work at a charter
school and I know they don’t require much as a regular school. I went home and sat and made a
plan and set some goals. I had to self-reflect on what I was going to do to get where I wanted to
go. So the first thing was to enroll in school and get that LBS1 that they required of me and set a
goal of how i was going to do it, how long it was going to take me and when I would walk in and
be that teacher and make the salary that is deserved all while helping the children. Self-reflecting

and problem solving can work together great. Someone could have a problem and before trying
to solve it, they could sit back and reflect on the issue at hand first especially if it is something
that they could have been through before and help them figure out how they would solve the
problem.
Conclusion
themselves as a person or in a career or some challenging things that they have going on.
Self-Reflecting in teaching can help to better teach students and find other ways to get through to
your students. Students are able to be taught to self-reflect so that they become a better learner.
You can use self-reflection in anything that you do in life, there is always room to better
yourself.
