Statement and Conclusion – Sample

Questions
Question 1
Statement: In a class, there are 80 boys and 40 girls.
Conclusions:
I: There are more boys than girls.
II: The class teacher is teaching Geography.
(1) Only conclusion I follows

(2) Only conclusion II follows

(3) Either conclusion I or II follows

(4) Neither conclusion I nor II follows

(5) Both conclusions I and II follow

Answer key: (1)

Solution: Here, we can arrive at the first conclusion just by reading the
statement. Clearly, the first conclusion is true. The second conclusion is not
correct as we do not have any further information to infer it.

Question 2
Statement: Candidates who have cleared the computer-based test are
shortlisted for the skill test. Only the candidates who have scored more marks
than the cut off clear the computer-based test.
Conclusions:
I: Not scoring more marks than the cut off will result in the candidate not being
shortlisted for the skill test.
II: Candidates who are appearing for the skill test have cleared the computer-
based test.
(1) Only conclusion I follows

(2) Only conclusion II follows

(3) Either conclusion I or II follows

(4) Neither conclusion I nor II follows

(5) Both conclusions I and II follow

Answer key: (5)

Solution: Here, the statement implies that to appear for the skill test,
candidates should clear the computer-based test. The criteria to pass the test
is clearing the cut-off. Those who have scored lesser marks than the cut off
have not cleared the computer-based test.

Hence, both conclusions I and II follow here.

Question 3
Statement: If you are not following the social distancing norms properly, then
there is a high chance that you will be infected with the novel coronavirus.
Conclusions:
I: Amar is following the social distancing norms properly
II: There is a high chance that Amar would be infected with the novel
coronavirus.
(1) Only conclusion I follows

(2) Only conclusion II follows

(3) Either conclusion I or II follows

(4) Neither conclusion I nor II follows

(5) Both conclusions I and II follow

Answer key: (3)

Solution: Here, the statement implies that, if one does not follow the social
distancing norms properly then he might be infected with the novel
coronavirus.

Hence, either conclusion I or II follows.
