University Curriculum Committee

Program Management
The UCC follows criteria and procedures to evaluate proposed courses and curricula in terms
of their contributions to the objectives of the university and the needs of the state. The
evaluations of program curriculum and faculty oversight are available in SACSCOC
Comprehensive Standard 10.4. The delineation of responsibilities in 10.4 fully assures that
program curriculum is appropriate for all constituents of the university. Deliberations of
departmental faculty consider items within their discipline to evaluate the needs of the
program and provide the most current curriculum for Tarleton students.
SACSCOC Comprehensive Standard 10.4:
The institution demonstrates that each educational program for which academic credit is
awarded is approved by the faculty and the administration.
The institution (a) publishes and implements policies on the authority of faculty in academic
and governance matters, (b) demonstrates that educational programs for which academic
credit is awarded are approved consistent with institutional policy, and (c) places primary
responsibility for the content, quality, and effectiveness of the curriculum with its faculty.
(Academic governance).

When reviewing program proposals, please consider the following:

 Degree equals 120 total hours (no more and no less)
o This includes each concentration area (if applicable)
 Field of Study (FOS) is included when applicable
 Degree does not contain any hidden prerequisites
o All prerequisites must be listed within the required course list
 Does the program have 45 upper level electives
o This includes each concentration area (if applicable)
 Degree contains a minimum of 2 Writing Intensive courses which must be advanced
and within the major
 Degree accounts for all General Education/CORE Requirements
o All major courses marked as shared with the CORE are actually current CORE
courses
o All major courses desired to be shared with the CORE are marked as such and
the hours are not double counted towards the 120 hour total
o If more than one course is marked as shared with the CORE and the courses
apply to the same CORE area, only the maximum hours required in the CORE
for that area are being shared and the remaining hours are being added to the
120 hour total
 All courses listed in the degree are still active, offered courses
o Pay close attention to courses that are not housed within the department
proposing the program
