Course Outline Pretreatment of Textile Wet Processing

This course covers various preparatory processes that textile materials undergo before dyeing, printing, and finishing, including singeing, desizing, scouring, bleaching, and mercerization. Students will learn about the principles, methods, equipment, process parameters, quality control, and troubleshooting of pre-treatment processes for natural, man-made, and blended fabrics both in theory and through lab practice. The course modules address greige inspection, shearing, singeing, desizing, scouring, heat-setting, bleaching, mercerization, causticization, and liquid ammonia treatment of fabrics.

Pre-treatment in Textile wet processing (2 1 3)

Course objectives: In this course, the students will study in depth different preparatory processes to
which textile materials are subjected before dyeing, printing and finishing. These preparatory processes
include, singeing, desizing, scouring, bleaching and mercerization. Both conventional and bio preparation
methods are covered in the course. Students will learn in detail, the preparation of natural, manmade and
blended textile materials in all forms. The emphasis will be on the rationale, principles, mechanisms,
effect and control of various process parameters, most common problems, and their preventative and
corrective measures. The course also includes lab practice.
