Piping By Nancy Fiedler

Foot
Along with myriad stitches, there are many accessory feet
that can enhance the funtions of your embroidery sewing
machine. In this continuing series we’ll introduce you to
these fun feet, to add that extra pizzazz to all of your
embroidery projects.

Applications
Use the piping foot to create custom piping to coordinate
with any project.
Cut a 22" square of the fabric chosen for the piping.
Fold the fabric along the true bias grain. Cut 1 1 ⁄ 2" bias
strips to each side of the fold.
Piece the bias strips together by placing one strip short
end at a right angle to one short end of another strip,
right sides together. Stitch along the diagonal and trim
away the extending points.
Wrap the bias strip, wrong sides together around 1 ⁄ 4"
cord. Place the wrapped cord in the tunnel of the piping
foot and sew. Trim the insertion edge of the piping to 1 ⁄ 4".
Insert purchased or custom piping into the seams of
the desired project.
Place the piping on the right side of the first layer of
fabric, lining up the stitched line of the piping with the
stitching line of the fabric. Lower the presser foot so that
the piping fits in the left tunnel on the foot bottom. Sew
the piping to the fabric.
Place the second layer of fabric right side down on the
first layer. Lower the presser foot, fitting the piping into
the tunnel of the foot. Sew through all the layers.
