Overview
The purpose for this document is to provide an overview of key differences between the
642-series exams and the new 300-series CCNP Routing and Switching exam topics.
For comprehensive information on the CCNP Routing and Switching Exam Topic changes,
visit the following exam pages.
Please note that with the 300-series curriculum, the IOS release and feature focus has
moved from IOS v12 to IOS v15 which is what is currently shipping.

ROUTE Exam Topics – Key Changes
All major routing topics from the 642-902 exam were kept in the new 300-101 exam.
Key additions include:
You should be able to identify Cisco Express Forwarding (CEF) concepts, explain
Network Principles Domain
TCP operations, and describe UDP operations
RIP (v2 and ng) Domain You should be able to describe RIPng (RIP next generation)
You should be able to configure and verify each of the following; EIGRP Stubs,
EIGRP (IPv6) Domain
load-balancing, and EIGRP for IPv6
OSPFv3 Domain You should be able to configure and verify OSPF for IPv6
You should be able to describe DMVPN (single hub) and Easy Virtual Networking
VPN Technologies Domain
(EVN)
Infrastructure Services Domain You should be able to describe IPv6 Network Address Translation
