“THE BAGMAN”

By

Henry Baverstock
FADE IN: URBAN AREA, DAY (CLEAR OR GREY SKIES, NO RAIN)

Cut in on the permanent point-of-view shot from the

priceless valuables being transported by a YOUNG THUG
(CRIMINAL 1). He walks down a street and into an alley to
drop the bag off. Passing cars and pedestrians chatting can
be heard as this occurs. Setting the bag next to a wall to
be picked up by others, he checks inside of it to see if
everything is there and leaves. Upward shot looking at the
wall and sky should remain.

Soon after an OLDER MAN walks into frame or has his

presence heard through footsteps. He has grey/greying hair
and appears tired. Holding up his phone, he attempts to
search for a signal nearby the bag; it is clear that he
isn’t completely sure how the smartphone works.

Looking over, he notices the open bag and approaches

cautiously. He crouches down, fingers reaching around the
side to pull the bag open some more to inspect its
contents. A shocked/surprise look appears on his face as he
realizes what is inside; he is so shocked that he
straightens back up and immediately turns around. Again, he
looks back into the bag to make sure that the valuables
aren’t an illusion.

Cut to him against the wall by the bag, calling someone he

knows to poorly inform them of what he has discovered. The
camera can be angled whenever necessary, but it cannot move
whilst filming. He looks excited and nervous at the same
time. After finishing his phone call, he picks the bag up
and walks out of the alleyway. As he walks down the street,
the view can have a MAN IN A SIMILAR HOODIE (CRIMINAL 2) to
the Young Thug enter the alley.

2
The Older Man remains with a happy look on his face from
below, walking with the bag half-open down another street.
The open section of the bag should have a tall wall
visible, showing the urbanized world the characters
inhabit. He looks over his shoulder once, then twice, his
cheerful expression slowly dropping as the anxiety of
before returns. The Older Man believes he is being
followed, which he is.

The music should grow more and more suspenseful as he

begins to pick up the pace of his walking; he has an
expression of fear on his face, sweating if possible. The
sound of pedestrians grow as he wades his way through
groups of people to get away from whoever is following him
(Criminal 2) before running into a churchyard. When running
with the strangers, the camera may pick up images of their
face that can be edited to be blurred for privacy.

Here, in the churchyard, the Older Man relaxes, believing

he has escaped Criminal 2. As he sits on a bench to rest,
the bag’s contents can see the trees that surround it; this
should be the most nature shown in the entire short film.
Showing an expression of thought, the Older Man decides if
keeping this bag is truly worth the risk of endangering
himself and his loved ones. Looking into the bag like
before (fingers reaching around to the inner layer), he
looks like he has decided.

Cut to the Older Man walking more precariously, still

looking over his shoulder and appearing more nervous. Cars
passing can be heard as he walks into a car park. Slowly
but surely, he ascends up the staircase leading to the top
floor. When climbing up we should see the graffitied walls
and dim lighting of inside. Walking out back into the light
of the afternoon, we see that the Older Man is holding the
bag over the edge, planning to drop it to end his problem.
The music should intensify here as the camera is dangled
dangerously from such a great height.

3
However, the Older Man quickly pulls the bag back to
safety, deciding that this is not the best way of ending
this issue; this is shown on his face. If he destroyed the
valuables that would surely infuriate the criminals and
make them want to do even more harm upon him. Quick cuts
show the Older Man rushing back down the stairs from
before, clearly having a new idea in mind.

Cut to the Older Man running out back into the urban town
centre, searching for a place to drop off the bag himself.
He looks about, growing more visually anxious. Have various
cuts of him looking about, possibly catching the attention
of others as he does. Eventually, he stops in a new place.
This location is similar to the alley from the beginning of
the film; a run-down place of criminal activity. Setting
the bag down, he gives one final look to those priceless
valuables before zipping up the bag; a natural fade to
black.

Other than the Foley sound there is silence until footsteps

come closer. A hand on the outside of the bag comes to
unzip it. Before the bag is unzipped fully to reveal this
stranger, it cuts to black. The cycle is repeating.

FADE OUT:

THE END
