Department of Electrical Engineering Network Analysis Lab

This lab report describes simulations of a DC and AC RL circuit performed by students Usairum Mirza and Noman Ali Javed. The objectives were to analyze the circuit's time constant under DC conditions and observe how reactive components affect AC analysis. Equipment included an oscilloscope, DMM, function generator and PSpice. The students created and simulated the RL circuit in PSpice, placing voltage and current markers to observe signals over time. The conclusion states that the lab helped learn how to simulate and analyze a RL circuit on PSpice.

Lab Report: 04
DC & AC Analysis of RL Circuit
Group member Names: Usairum Mirza, Noman Ali Javed
Roll Number: 160363, 150409
Objectives
 To perform DC analysis of a RL circuit and observe the circuit’s time constant.
 To demonstrate the key electrical parameter relationships in a series RL circuit, and to
observe that due to out-of-phase elements, simple dc analysis techniques cannot be used
to determine circuit parameters in ac circuits containing reactive components.

Equipment Required
 Oscilloscope
 Digital Multimeter (DMM)
 Function generator
 Pspice Software

Introduction
An inductor and a resistor are connected in series to the terminals of a dc power supply

via a switch. Voltmeters are connected to monitor the supply voltage, the resistor voltage, and

the inductor voltage. The times required for the inductor voltage to reach certain predetermined

levels are measured. Similarly, the resistor voltage change is timed. In all cases, the measured

times are related to the circuit time constant.

Circuit Diagram

Procedure
 We did the experiment on Pspice Software.
 The components can be placed using add part button or ctrl+G.
 Make the RL circuit as as shown
 The components can be joined by wire using ctrl W or Draw Wire in the tool tab.
 We do some necessary transient settings by going to Analysis and set IC=10. In the ac time set
final time to 10ms.
 Place Voltage and Current Markers.
 To simulate the circuit use f11 or simulate button on top right.

Conclusion
In this lab we learned about Analysis of a RL circuit. We learned how to make and simulate the circuit on
Pspice software and simulate the circuit by making necessary settings in analysis Tab.
